well im back on the pill atm but i wanted to know more about peoples experiences with long-term contraception before getting any, i can remember hearing good and bad stories for basically every kind so im a bit confused atm!
can anyone whos had the implant, injection, coil or patch (or any others ive forgotten) let me know their experiences good or bad thanks! x

I haven't had any, only the pill, and ive heard really bad stories about the coil and implant. I knew one girl who had the coil and it got badly infected and had to be removed and she said it was painful as hell! My mum also just had it put in and gets "womb pains" because she doesn't have periods with it but still gets the pains like she's about to come on, she said it was painful getting it put in too. The implant i've heard of a few people who just didn't stop bleeding for like a year?! So no point having it really as sex and bleeding don't really go hand in hand The injection is the one i'm personally considering x

Depo jab for me = great for 3 fucking years!!! Then it failed me.... humpf!! x

EDT - in my experience DONT go for the implant... It turns you into a psycho... bad times! I'd go for something less commited x

tank you both see its stories like that that make me just want to stay on the pill i have heard a lot of the non-stop bleeding / pain / infertility problems later in life stories that it scares me off pretty much anything! x

Yeah, same here! But the pill fails alot of people too so its a difficult decision to make x

I had the depo jab too - it completely stopped my periods which i loved but then when i came off it my periods seemed 10x worse

I'm glad i'm not gonna need contraception after LO is here... because i am NEVER HAVING SEX AGAIN! lol.

I've heard that the coil can slip down and therefore become uneffective so it defeats the point of getting it.
Plus long term use of contraceptives like that have been known to affect conception in later life because the hormonal inbalances and such. And the pill doesnt stop the egg and sperm meeting and forming cells and such - it just flushes it out (most of the time) at your AF because it tampers with the womb lining. Or so Jason Everet says.

There are pros and cons of all contraceptives but you'd have to go to the docs, explain your situation personally so they can recommended the best suited one for you and give more in depth pros and cons and such

yeah thats a good point 3 years without fail is a pretty good success rate lol. did it stop your periods? im liking this notion of no periods xx

That's the problem with the ones that irregulate periods, that was the biggest sign for me! (I thought the other symptoms were me being me lol) x

OH has already told me their will no no sex for a while after LO is here
I am happy because of the long term effects of contraceptives such as the coil and such and the way the pill doesn't stop baby cells forming but condoms arent efficient either but I'm also unhappy because I'll miss sex with him lol.

Ive already started the "no sex" haha my poor oh.
Well everything works with people differently, what works for me wont necessarily work for you. I was on the pill for 3 yrs then out of the blue fell pregnant with my 1st ( i never missed a pill or anything).

After I had my son I wanted to get the depo shots but my dr said no because using it for long periods can weaken your bones. My sister was having these needles for 2-3 yrs and it made her skip her periods, but it also took her 2 yrs of trying for another baby.

I have a few friends who have the implanon in their arm. All of them have gained 15-20kgs and cannot lose it.
My oldest sister has had an iud in for 5 yrs. I think its one of the best methods, its the only one ive never heard anything bad about.
Im just going to go on the mini pill and be careful around the days of ovulation.

Ohh just want to add, with the depo and bone thing you can look it up if you like as i done my own research when my dr told me cos id never heard of it. I had low vimatin d my whole pregnancy, it got back on track but having the depo shots would put me even more at risk of weakened bones.

I gota say implant all the way
I had mine the full three years and would have got another if we weren't TTC

Oh and I didn't have ANY periods whilst I had it

Yeah it stopped my periods completely! I hadnt had a period in 4 years since about 2 weeks ago... it was very odd!!

Despite it failing me once I will deffinatly being going back on it again. I cant do pills as Im so forgetful and like I said, I dont wanna turn into a psycho ! plus I HATE needles and stuff so the thought of havin something "implanted" in me makes me wanna barf.... blah!!!

Slap me if im wrong but I think thats just the mini pill, the regular pill makes you not release any eggs so no fertilization can take place

I think thats how it works anyways

I would stick with the pill- and maybe double layer the condoms aswell... just in case
