How absurd is this? Anyone else having this happen?

Some background here...

Last Thursday, as there were no probs with my ultrasound and cervical length thus far (had troubles in my last pregnancy), my doc gave me the go-ahead to have some :sex: . Right after it though, I had a really strong contraction. Looked it up on the internet, and found out that wasn't abnormal, unless contractions continued more than an hour. So, I stayed up for 1.5 hours, some cramping, no more contractions, fell asleep around midnight. Woke up at 4am as my son was coughing, and felt more contractions - irregular, not painful. Freaked out and went to the hospital.

I stayed there for the rest of the night, and had an ultrasound to measure my cervical length which was now at 2.8cm, down from 3.1 at my previous ultrasound 2 weeks prior. Still within acceptable range, and it wasn't softened at all, so I went home. No more contractions until after weeing a few days later. I saw my doc as a followup this past Thursday, and she phoned the specialist, who was satisfied that I am okay to continue life as normal, as my cervical length is greater than 2.5cm.

So then today, I started having some contractions again. I think I was having them during a bday party we were at, but wasn't sure if it was mild contractions or not, as I was busy chasing kids. Tonight however, another really strong one after my last bathroom visit. With the last pregnancy I only had cervical shortening troubles, nothing wrong with my uterus, and I'm just really concerned about the combination of both together. My next sceduled appointment and ultraound isn't for another 2.5 weeks, but like I said, I was just there and they said all was fine so i don't know if i should just wait.

What to do, what to do.... could this just be normal braxton hicks contractions, and I'm just more aware of what a contraction feels like now that I'm on my 2nd pregnancy? Or should I be calling the doctor?

I think that if you're worried in any way, you should call your doctor hun. Better to be told nothing is wrong and all's well to put your mind at ease than to not call and wonder if you should.

 Hope all is okay.

Hi Celia

Sorry, only just seen your post. I definitely think you should go back and see your own doc as soon as you can. I know from experience that my cervix shortened suddenly after i'd had a cervical length reading of 3.4cm one day, then at a private scan i' booked 5 days later (which i;d almost cancelled because my hospital had said i was fine and i didn't think i needed it) my cervix had suddenly dropped to just over 2cm. I ended up getting a stitch put in and am currently on bed rest.

I've never had contractions, but it's always best to be extra safe than sorry. Even if all's fine, at least you'll have that peace of mind. Ideally you want them to check your cervix length again, just to make sure the contractions aren't changing your cervix at all (could just be braxton hicks...).

Let me know how it goes.
