Hi, I've just started taking Metformin 500mg x 1 day as prescribed by my gp. He didn't know much about it's use and only from recommendation by his colleagues is he prescribing it. Have been told to try this amount for 3 months then go back to up it if no luck. But reading around am I on too low a dose for too long? Have read people start on 500 then after a few days increase.
I have mild pcos and do ov on my own according to bloods just after 2 yrs ttc for no2. and 2 mc's last year we're still not getting a sticky bfp.
I'm only slightly overweight - 5'2" and 10st2lb which I'm working on (lost 7lb in past few weeks from a low GI diet)
Would be great to hear what others are on/how long etc.
Also he told me when I get my bfp to stop taking but read great stuff about Metformin lowering mc risk if taken for the first tri. Any thoughts would be great!!!!
Babydust to all x

Hi Sonnyem :hi:
My GP started me off on 1000mg and then when i was referred to the endocrinologist he doubled me up to 2000mg as he said that 1000mg is not enough.
I would suggest going back to your gp or asking for a referral to an endocrinologist
HTH xx

Hi,
I started taking Metformin 500mg x 1 day for two weeks then after that I started taking 2 a day, then 3 a day. I am about to start taking 4 tablets a day as I have had no side affects for the last two weeks.

Good luck.

I started off on from my doctor on 850mg twice a day but that did nothing for me. And I gavve up taking it because of the side effects. When visiting the fertility speicialist and Provera didnt work for me they put me on 500mg once a day for a week then I had to take 2 a day for a week till I got up to 3 a day. It sitll made no difference to me but I dont have AF at all and they were hoping it would bring AF.

I think maybe you shold take the recommended dose for a month and if that makes no differnce go back to your GP x

Thanks for your replies!! I'm annoyingly away on hols when the first 28 days supply runs out but will go back to him after hols (after getting repeat prescription to cover whilst away) and ask to increase if no magic luck the first time around. Think I had no bad tum etc as had all that when started on the GI diet which has a similar affect to blood sugars as metformin. So who knows perhaps a combo of the diet and pills are worth double the pills?!??! I can hope for now anyway!
Hope all your dreams are answered soon x

Change of plan!! Decided to not wait any longer than needed and called my gp and he's agreed to up the dose to 2 x 500mg per day :happydance: He recommended that I wait after 10 days but that will be the first day of a camping trip and do NOT want a bad tum then so will start them a couple of days earlier - at 7 days after first starting them.
Thanks for your advice and words of wisdom x

fab news! hope you dont get too many side effects xx
