Cot bedding

Can anyone more experienced with baby things tell me what kind of bedding I will need?

I have a second hand cot, and have brought a new mattress. I am going to swaddle for the first few weeks, or use a grobag if he doesn't like that. Other than a bottom sheet, what else will I need?

Also, where do you stand on the cot bumpers debate? I have read that they can be dangerous, but then again I don't want him to injure himself when he starts rolling!

We got by very happily with just a grobag and cellular blankets. Others may have differrent experiences but things like bumpers and extras we didn't really need. There were a few bumps when she got rolling but she quickly learned how to avoid nutting the bars!

Personal preference hun, if u want bumpers n matching quilt then go for it, i have. Used em for my son as when he went into his cot it was winter so he used the quilt n the bumper stopped him from gettin his arms caught in the bars lol. As for blankets, as many as you want really, ive not got many for the cot (really need to get some more) but whatever style you like will be good for ur baby :)

I bought a bumper before I heard anything negative about it so I have it tied round the top of the cot rather than by the mattress, so it shouldn't effect airflow!

Bedding wise at first we just had a bottom sheet and a cellular blanket. We then moved onto a grobag & blanket after a month or so xx

With Emma I have only ever used sleeping bags - bought a load of blankets and they have just sat in the cupboard for 2 years! Lol. I imagine she will use them at some point though.

I found a breathable bumper...can't remember what they are called now (maybe Airflow?), but they go all the way round the cot and are fab! Not very pretty as they are plain white but definitely make the cot cozier.

Fitted cot sheets.
Some flat sheets to go on top in warmer weather
Cellular blankets for when it's cold
Grobag (or swaddle wrap if you want to start with that at first)

That's it really. Cot bumpers aren't recommended as they are a potential suffocation hazard. I imagine the risk is small but if the NHS say not to use them then that's good enough for me. Airflow ones are a good idea if you are set on having bumpers.

Thanks ladies, all very useful info. It's good to know I don't need to buy one of those ridiculously expensive cot sets. I will keep an eye out for some nice sheets!
