We bought lo a bouncing chair thing, the problem is he is so small and the back is so flat and upright he can't cope in it. At the moment he only really has his playmat to amuse him. He loves being rocked, particularly when he is tired but can't sleep (which seems to have happened all day today!) obviously I love rocking him, but it is hard to do so ALL the time! I'm wondering if a swing could be the answer for these times as the seat is more bucket shaped he might get on better with it for a little while until he is bigger. He can manage about 10 mins on his pmaymat before he starts whinging which makes it difficult as he is not quite ready for sleep and just seems to want to be rocked and amused.

Those of you with swings, how do you find them? How often do you use them?do you let your lo's fall asleep in them?

Hope that all makes sense!!

You could try the rainforest swing, they are amazing. great shape to support bubs.
(I Might have one for sale if you are interested[cheeky grin])

otherwise you could try a baby hammock, a friend has one and her bubs love her!

My baby will only nap in the swing, and when he was very young/colicky, it was the only thing that he would sleep at night in.

I swaddle him and put him in one of these Fisher Price Papasan

Thanks for the replies, he just managed about 15 minutes on his mat while I ate my tea, now I'm back rocking him even though he is wide awake. Thank goodness for my gliding chair, would be much harder without it!

Is there a time limit for swings like there is for car seats?

im not sure of the time limit. but i know with my swing its swinging les and less as shes getting heavier it used 2 go fast now her waight makes it so much slower. i dont think she has that long left out of it.
they r really good though she used 2 sleep in hers all the time it layed back quite well .

Hm not sure but I don't think so. I bought mine used.

our swing (again rainforest) was a life saver in the end BUT when she was very little she HATED it. It slowly grew on her and then eventually it was the only place she would SOMETIMES nap when not on me. But in terms of entertainment, not more than perhaps 20mins which at the time was amazing!

Thanks, we have seen a chicco one we quite like the look of as it looks like it lays quite flat. I think we are going to take a chance and order one, hopefully he will like it. We just tried him again in his bouncy chair which he was better in, but we have to sit right next to him as it is so upright after about two minutes his head drops off to one side and he starts to look really uncomfortable.

I had never had a swing for all 9 of my kids, until the other day! My stepdaughter has an 11 month old and she brought the swing round and i put Jenson in it and he LOVES it! hes asleep in it right now next to me swinging away! x

When LO was newborn we had the same problem. To save yourself some money on buying a swing (because they are expensive), we just propped up the front by using box files (which we use for storing our paperwork). I propped one under each leg at the front, and she was much happier. At that age she was too young to bounce it herself, so it didn't move too much, but it allowed her to see whatwas going on. When she was about 8 weeks old she was old enough to hold her head up enough to use it normally, and now she absolutely loves sitting in it

yes!! buy a swing!! it will save your life!!! :D we have the aquarium swing, my son and my baby girl loooved it!!!

My Lo has the fisher price butterfly garden one and loves it! Although, we only use it for naps...really useful for helping her to go asleep, although as someone else said, its not really an entertainment thing for her, she wont manage more than 10 mins in it, prefers the playgym
