Could it have worked this time?

We have been trying for a baby for the last few months to no success, last month we were really busy with one thing and another and had sex a few days before and the day after my predicted ovulation date, I am due my period on Friday but this last week I have hardly slept although totally shattered, and yesterday my partner cooked some eggs but I said mine tasted really funny and he said his were fine, could it have actually worked this time? Any help please
