So late last night I got an insatiable urge to crunch on ice cubes...

3 cubes and much googling later, I find out it's a common pregnancy craving and can be a sign of anaemia, so I'm off to the doctors tomorrow to get tested.

Does anyone else here have experience of this bizarre craving? I want ice lollies tonight but we don't have any, so I'll probably be at the cubes again. My partner was so freaked out :haha:

I get a craving like that a lot normally!
Never knew it meant anemia though!

Yeah apparently, I'd get it checked just incase!

Ask them to check your iron too! That was the case when my mom had wicked cravings.

Surprising but yes, I read it too. A desire to chew ice is a sign that you may have an iron deficiency and that you could be anaemic. Not only ice, but if you develop a craving for starch, paper or clay, it can also indicate iron deficiency. Although the reason is unknown, it is advisory to perform a routine blood test.
