I've been suffering from abdominal pains for the past few weeks, which doctors have put down to UTIs... They haven't gotten any better, and I have been worrying due to their severity. In the past couple of days I have gotten really dizzy, and this morning developed a pain in my shoulder tip. Maternity wanted to see me, so we went up this morning.

We had our first scan - baby was there on the screen - heart pounding away good and proper. Yolk sack also there, and womb looking fine. They put my dates back to 7 weeks 4 days. So glad my bubba was there.

However, it took them a long time to find it (and a transvaginal scan) as my bladder was so huge it was blocking the normal scan - turns out the reason for that is that I have 3 large cysts pushing my bladder and womb out of place, making it hard to find. The biggest cyst is 9.5 x 8.1 x 7.4 cm in size - huge. The others are about half that size, each.

So glad I can say bubba is there, and reassured it is not an ectopic, but worried stupid all the same.

Has anyone else experienced cysts? What size? What outcome for pregnancy? I don't know enough about it, but the midwives and consultant seemed suitably worried for me to follow suit. She talked about surgery after 12 weeks, but how life threatening it is if I am not seen if pain gets worse between now and 12 weeks.

Obviously worried.

My friend had a huge cyst, she looked 6 months when she told us girls at 3 months. She had surgery to remove it not sure how far on in her pregnancy she was. Her and baby were fine, charlottes now 2 yrs old!!

hey my mum had a cyst throughout her pregnancy with me, and i was delivered 22 years ago on my due date healthy as healthy can be... im sure your baby and you will be fine... i actually had the effect on my mums cyst that i burst it as i was born and all was fine xx

That is a large cyst, even the smaller ones sound a fair size (my experience of cysts is outwith pregnancy, I get them a couple of times a year, linked to my endo). The reason they will be concerned is the risk that they could twist your ovary. They would only consider an operation if it was REALLY necessary. If the pain gets worse in between now and 12 weeks get yourself to the EPU/A&E as soon as possible to be on the safe side. There is no real risk to your baby though from what I understand.

Thanks ladies!

It is big, eh?! I had thought I might be carrying twins due to the size of my belly, never thought it'd be quads... Or, rather, one teeny bubba and 3 unwanted fecking objects (UFOs).

I really hope they were there before the pregnancy, and that's as big as they are going to get. I will be very vigilant, and will not hold back on getting to EPU/A&E if I need to.

Anyone else had experience of this???

Yes I have had cysts when I was pregnant with my son, and with this one as well. I actually had a scan last week and the Tech said she seen where one had actually burst and was clearing up... this is normal and will not harm the baby... with my son I had a few of them and they were cleared up by the 2nd trimester. They are a bit painful, but honestly nothing you have to worry about unless they get massive, and then your doc would keep a close eye on it...Good Luck to you!!!

What would you term massive? From what I have read Ovarian cysts grow up to 6 cm normally. Mine is a fair bit bigger than that...

Hi Windswept :) I had a large cyst (5cm) in my previous pregnancy. The outcome of that pregnancy wasn't good...but NOTHING to do with the cysts. My mums a nurse, and she re-assured me no end by telling me that a cyst is a normal part of any pregnancy. The reason why these seem so un-common is because they have usually dissapeared by the time we have our dating scan.

My cyst ruptured a few weeks after my miscarriage...which is also quite common and this can cause excruciating pain...I ended up in the A&E and they gave me a morphine injection. If my pregnancy had continued as normal, it would have withered away and probably not ruptured.

I would'nt worry about the cyst's themselves, but the pain you are in...I'd speak to a professional and see if they can do anything to drain them, or atleast ease the pain!

Hope this helps xx :flower: xx
