Damien - Honest Opinions Please!!

Hiya,

I really like the name Damien but when I said it to OH he said "no way - the devil!". I wasn't aware of the connection but had always wondered why it had that affect on Rodney in Only Fools and Horses!!

My OH said he actually likes the name and its only one of VERY few that we actually agree on but can't seem to get past this 666 connection.

Is it a really awful name? Is the devil connection the first thing you think of? Pleeeease be honest!

I have to be honest, it is the first thing I think of... devil child, I know I've heard people say that to children with that name... the one in particular was a bit of a nightmare child... self fulfilling prophesy?! But no seriously, it is a nice name, I like it, especially spelt like that, just have to accept that, that connection is there though

I am another where the first thing I think of is 'The Omen'. To each their own with the name, but the name is such a well known name with that film I wouldn't choose it. It's okay and go for it if you really love it, but you definitely need to know the connotations that the name has with that film.

I like it. One name that is similar to it I was considering at one time is Darien.
And despite the movie The Omen it really hasn't taken a huge popularity hit (though it was never a top 10 name).

it's the name of the best guy i know...my husband!
I like the spelling with the 'en' instead of the 'an' on the end too - i'm pretty sure the character from that stupid movie was spelt 'damian'.

Hmmm - maybe with the en rather than an as the PP said there is not as much connotation with the Omen?

Just dont do it. If you cant get past the 666 thing, the JUST DONT DO IT you dont want to have any obstacles that may get in the way of being happy with your chosen name, or for them to be taunted in the playground!! There are so many names to choose from.

if you really like it and disagree with the above, go for it! Its shorter version, Damo, is a pretty cool name.

I had a classmate in high school named Damien. Sounds ok to me eventhough it reminds me of the scary movie

I would personally stay away from that name since it is, after all, the name of the devil...

How about: Damon, Darrien, Darren, Donovan...?

Damien 666 comes to mind straight away but only because we called my counsin it when she was little as she was known as the devil child! lol.

I work with a Damien and he is a lovely lad so there are pros and cons to the name x

In itself I think it's a lovely name but you will get soooooooo many comments, can you handle it?

my little cousin is called Damien and he is 10 now, everyone said to my aunty when he was born not to call him that because of the omen, but she thought sod it she liked the name. Hes never been picked on or a thing mentioned about the 666 connection
