So basicly i need to decide where i want to labour... well a week on wed i get re tested for gbs ... fingers crossed... so if it comes back still present then im gonna have to go to lancs regardless as my maternity unit dosnt offer the IV drip... but if it comes back all good then i get to choose where i go ...now the maternity unit is so lovely all the rooms are done up like a hotel and have their own bathrooms and tvs and kettles mini fridges etc its bliss... BUT they do not have any of the equipment nor capability to deal with any problems other then breathing apparitus so if out went wrong id have to go to lancs which is a 20min drive!

Lancs hosp isint exactly the nicest place to give birth as the rooms are so basic and hospital like but it is by far the safest for obvs reasons...

What would you guys prefer? im thinking lancs atm but its a bit of a hassel and its purely because im scared of something going wrong and bubs needing help asap

Hmm it is tricky I have decided on a maternity unit but it is AT the hospital so if anything doesn't go to plan I can get help straight away. my OH wouldn't be happy if it wasn't on the hospital grounds and I don't think I would be either...just in case...!!

But it's totally up to how you feel. Perhaps discuss your concerns for and against with your midwife x

I am for medical specialists and equipment all around in case anything goes wrong.

yea thats what i was thinking... but i suppose anything could go wrong for anyone 2bh... you never know! i did say i think i want to go up to the maternity ward at the hosp even if it isint as nice... but atleast its where i can get help if needed... but my mum n everyone go on about it like its the worst place to go and its not nice etc
xx

I'm my opinion it doesn't matter what it looks like. What matters is what can be done there. The hospital I had my daughter at looked horrible but it was the most advanced NICU in the region and had the best specialists. I hated how it looked but felt good about my choice when I was in labor. Besides I covered my room in flowers to make it pretty!

Check what procedures are in place in case of emergency. At the end of the day the maternity unit will still be an NHS facility staffed by trained professionals. They will be equipped for immediate emergencies which need to be dealt with before transfer and will have had things arise in the past. They will most likely liase with the hospital also in case of emergency.
Get a feel for the reality of their statistics compared to each other. Do they have a good name, any issues that have arisen at either place. Don't make assumptions or projections.

Good luck
