Delayed midwife appointment thanks to incapable drs surgery staff

Just a massive rant really. Need to get this off my ever growing, sore chest.

I was told by the dr when I went to see him 2 weeks ago (on Monday) to confirm my pregnancy that I'd see a midwife in my 8th week and that the surgery would refer me to the hospital straight away. Coming into my 8th week now and I've had nothing from my midwife, no forms, no appointment nothing.

As I'm impatient and want everything to run smoothly with my 1st baby, I rung the hospital (antenatal ward) on thursday this week, to ask when to expect my letter and appointment... Low and behold, my drs surgery haven't even refered me yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So i rung the drs surgery and they said they'd had a problem with their fax machine but would send it that day!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rung the hospital the next day (in the afternoon) to check they'd received my form, and nothing. Rung the drs again and they said due to the machine failing to send it for 2 weeks they were now going to post it!!!!!!!! 2 weeks they'd had my referal form for!!!!!! Why couldn't they have just posted it the same week I visited the dr???

So thank you to them I have to wait another week to see a midwife and probably another week for my scan!!!!! I know its only a week, and due to the same situation my friend had to wait an extra 2 weeks for her appointments. Do the people in reception at the drs not know the worry that we go through with our first pregnancy???? an extra week is going to freak me out!!!

Just make sure you stay on top of your appointment ladies!!!

Similar thing happened to me, but it was reception staff misleading me saying i'd been referred as had early scans at 6 + 7 weeks. I didn't believe them and so booked an apt last weds with my GP who confirmed i had NOT been referred but referred me then. Havent heard anything yet and according to them as they go by LMP i will be 10 weeks tomorrow and no bloody booking apt yet!!! Nor do i have a scan apt. ARGH!!! All that tax we pay! moan moan, thanks for listening to my rant too!! Hope you get your apt soon hun x

I've just changed my GP yesterday for similar reasons, I figure if they can screw things up this early in my pregnancy, it's not going to get any better. And they weren't even apologetic about screwing things up which frustrated me even more.
