I have a question about deli meats and I'll state what I know....
I know that deli meats can carry a bacteria called Listeria. Which can cause Listeriosis. Which has very bad effects on mom, and baby. It can cause problems with the pregnancy, miscarriage, still born, or defects on LO.
Another thing I know is, if you heat deli meats until steaming hot, it kills the bacteria Listeria.
What I want to know is, if I were to heat salami until steaming hot, is it safe to let it cool to room temperature? Like, can Listeria come back?
Sorry if this is silly, I just really need to know because I am craving a salami sandwich so badly.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated! :hugs:

I just want to heat up a couple pieces of salami and make a sandwich :haha: Thank you for the help

Yes, as long as it's fully cooked and you heat it, it should be fine. :flower:

I'll make sure it is steaming hot!
A family friend of ours, had Listeriosis with her son when she was pregnant. After she gave birth, 2 weeks later her son passed away.
I could not live with myself if that happened, knowing it was because of salami! I just want to take all precautions and be safe not sorry.
(I'm not saying that it was her fault either, it's just really sad and should definitely be prevented)! Poor boy.

Hmmm i eat deli meat cold sandwiches almost everyday sometimes i feel guilty but i cant help it i would get cooked here and there mostly cold .

My midwife said if you get it from a reputable place that sells well the chances of them carrying listeria are extremely rare. You would hear about it, that there's been cases of it. She told me not to worry as long as I'm not going to Mexico and buying it from a little meat stand lol

NewMommy17 - I'm sure it's fine I just don't wanna risk it because my family knows someone who had Listeriosis  Also my mom had deli meats through out all her pregnancies and we're all fine. Although she did develop gestational diabetes with her last pregnancy, but that was more than likely not the deli meats!

LovingYou - lmao! I agree, I just want to take all precautions to be on the safe side and so my mind is at ease

I have to say that there is a lot of hype about these things. I still eat sandwhich meat etc and have had nothing happen. According to my MW there is like a 1 in 50 chance of getting listeriosis. Salmonella poisoning is more common, so I'm not really worrying about it. (I only found out about it 2weeks ago so if anything was going to happen it would have happened by now) Just my opinion.

Over here we aren't told to avoid deli meats. I did ask my midwife about it because I read it on bnb, but she said she'd never heard of that being a risk. I'm not saying there isn't any risks, just in the UK they say it's fine. :flower:

My dr said its fine as long as its fresh, she didnt say to warm it. Just dont eat old meat!
