DH and I both like the name Demetrius but we are worried that it's a bit too unusual for Scotland (and Scottish parents!) We really struggle with boys names at the best of times so the fact that we both like this one is almost a miracle! Also, I prefer names that aren't particularly common but with boys names I seem to be drawn to more common names!:dohh:

What do you think? Is Demetrius too "out there"?

I know what you mean scottish people tend not to be very out there with the names and If they are its usually girls names. saying that though iv heard a few unusual ones at my nephews schools. kids are so accepting of names i worry more if your child is going to like it into adult hood.

its a cool kinda name though I think I like it x

My friend has a son called this and its cute but his NN is Demi which I think is girly x

I love it. Though I might call him Demitri instead of Demi.
Dominik is similar and nn Dom is very manly, IMO.

I also like the name Dominic but "Dom" doesn't go with our surname and I'm 99% sure that someone, at some point, will nn him that! Whereas with Demitrius I certainly wouldn't be giving him a nickname and I think other people are less likely too as well. I'm just worried that it might seem a little pretentious.

Sounds like a bad guy in a film to me for some reason! I live in London and I would say it's a bit out there south of the border too, but I don't think it's awful.

Love it! But then I am a big Shakespeare fan and it's the name of one of the characters in A Midsummer Night's Dream :) it's a very cool choice :)

I love it, but I am from the US. But still a great name IMO!
