Ouchie ouchie ouchie!
I have extremely bad teeth and a history of gingivitis. Most of my teeth have had work on them and I've had a couple of root canals in the past.

Well, about two weeks ago I got a lump on my gum and went to the dentist just to be sure. It wasn't really hurting much - dragging really - and my dentist said it was because of the work I'd had done on my teeth in the past combined with the extra blood and hormones of pregnancy were giving my gingivitis and making my gums swell. He said he was reluctant to do any work on me while I was pregnant and advised I use corsodil mouth wash regularly.

The pain stopped for a while but on Friday it came back sooo much worse than before and has been increasingly getting worse over the weekend. Paracetemal takes the edge off for about an hour but they are so swollen and putting so much pressure on my teeth I'm struggling to eat because even the slightest touch makes it feel like the roots are being driven into my gums like a knife. It's affecting most of the top left side of my mouth. I spent most of yesterday in bed trying to sleep because the pain was so bad I couldn't do anything else.

Does anyone have any suggestion other than mouthwash/ regular brushing to alleviate the pain/ speed up the healing? I'm petrified of premature birth and also am getting married/ going on honeymoon in 6 weeks and am scared of having dental problems while abraod.

I am a dental nurse and all I can suggest is you must keep on brushing the area as best as you can, its a vicious cycle because its painful you tend to avoid the area therefor the problem will persist/become worse! continue brushing your teeth and gums well and use the Corsdyl mouthwash and it should ease off

Thanks so much Paula. I'm being very brave in terms of forcing myself to brush the painful area with a soft brush and I must admit it does feel a little better today, although it's painful to drink as well because my cheek brushes against my gum and now I have a headache in that side of my head, but it's the not knowing if it's going to go away or not, or even get worse!
