Have many of you had work on your teeth whilst pregnant!?
I need to ring tomorrow and get registered but I'm scared already because I know my two wisdom teeth will need work and one of my teeth at the front is causing me pain! :(
Just wanting to know if anyone of you have had work done whilst pregnant .. I can't help thinking that if it hurts me n I get all anxious baby won't be too happy!

I have. On friday I had 4 teeth pulled at one time Ouch! Everything is great now. I am no longer in the pain I was in. I kept getting infections in those teeth, so it was probabley better they are gone. You can tylenol 3 and penecillion. Is what the doctor told me. I would talk to your Ob and Midwife to see what they say. Good Luck Tooth pain is no fun at all.

All is ok about the dentists when pregnant - just teeth xrays we should avoid !!

I had a filling redone in my wisdom tooth and dentist asurred me all was safe x x

I've just had a root canal this morning :(

It was OK they just missed out the xrays and will do them after LO is born; they also used anesthetic without adrenaline in it.

To be honest, I've just had MS return so I was too busy worrying about throwing up to think about what the dentist was doing to my tooth!

:hugs:You will be fine. If it's work that can wait they will do it after the baby's born and if not you and the baby will be much better having it done than risking an infection if it's left.

J x

I guess the US is different the doctor told the dentist that Xrays are fine because there in your mouth and they just have double protect you. I havent heard anything about the shots either.

My dentist is considering a tooth extraction. He sent me to a specialist. They both said that any work done requiring freezing should be done in the second trimester only. Not the first or third. It's always best to wait until after the baby is born but if the pain is unbearable to the point where it affects your eating, you should have it done in your second trimester.

I've had temporary fillings done as I can't afford white ones and not allowed metal ones when pregnant. I was told that xrays are ok as they're not pointing it at baby!

I think the general advice is that it's fine to have dental work done (in the UK they won't do X-rays). But ask them if the work can wait till after the baby is born just if you would feel more comfortable with that. I'm off to the dentist tomorrow and can imagine I need something done. Hopefully it can wait till June. You normally have to wait months for an appointment anyway!

Thanks ladies!
I'll ring the midwife and dentist tomorrow and get myself booked in. I've decided no more sweeties! Lol.
To be fair it could be all the fruit doing it :O
The OH mum lost some teeth whilst pregnant so kinda scared something like that will happen!

...

Oh a plus note time for one born every minute!! :D :D

Dentist when pregnant is fine. Just need to avoid x-rays.

I had an old filling taken out and a half crown put on a few weeks ago. Just had a local anesthetic. I have two impacted wisdom teeth which will need to be extracted after I've had the baby, as I will need an x-ray and a general anesthetic. Looking forward to that... Not.

glad i'm not alone!
last night while eating some sticky candy a small filling fell out...just my luck really that this happens when pregnant.
and i hate dentist apointments, bleh, oh well... it has to be done.
i am glad it'll be a white filling now instead of the old silver one yay

Im just about to get dressed to go to the dental hospital... I need to have a tooth removed :( ...

sad times as I HATE! dentist!.. so much!...

I was going to 'put under' to have it but cuz im now preg i have to have it with just injections!

Oh boy im not in a good mood

not yet but i need to have acouple out and im not looking forward to it!! urgh x

I need a filling in one of my teeth and my dentist said she would not do it until i have had the baby so she just put a temp filling in until i can have an injection.

Better to be safe than sorry! x

I had a xray beacuse its only ur face it does not effect baby. I also have a tooth taken out i was about 19 weeks pregnant at the time.

Hi

As a dentist AND pregnant dental treatment is fine, including x-rays as the radiation doesn't go anywhere near baby. Most women opt to avoid x-rays in pregnancy which is fine but my LO is doing just great and I'm taking them day in and day out. It's entirely up to you how much or how little you have done before baby arrives but it's all totally safe.

i had a tooth pulled out yesterday, i still hgad an xray to get a better look at wat needed doing, and she warned me the anaesthetic she was about to use would make me shakey, which it did but it worked fine, my baby is fine n kickin n wriggling happily =] got two more small fillings booked for feb 18th.x
