Hi all

We're having a few issues getting more lumpy food into Rebecca. The trouble is that all the lumpier food I'm offering is savoury and most of the sweeter stuff is quite smooth.

I want to give some smoother savoury options (no problems there) but also some lumpier desserts so I can work out whether it's the lumps or the savouriness that is the problem!! I can't decide whether she has just got a sweet tooth :dohh:

Does anyone have any good ideas for food that can either be bought or I could make with texture (rather than smooth).

I need to avoid banana where possible (a little bit is okay but she gets constipated if she eats too much!)

Any ideas welcome :flower:

Rice pudding.
Cottage cheese w/a bit of fruit spread or puree mixed in to sweeten it.
Yogurt with mashed up fruit mixed in.

That's all i can think of off the top of my head right now!

ETA: oatmeal or weetabix with fruit spread/puree mixed in to sweeten them might work, too.

Ooh some good ideas here - thanks hivechild.

Please keep the ideas coming

hmmm I didn't really do lumps, but started on soft finger foods pretty quickly. What about steamed apples (makes them softer, could even mash them up a bit to make them lumpy?) or pear?

You only have to steam the fruit a few minutes for it to become soft :)

Pieces of mangoes, mixed with yoghurt & 1 tsp of baby cereal to sweeten the yoghurt. Mangoes r too sweet & easy to chew & swallow. Peaches mixed with cereals r also good. I also cut apples to small pieces, add butter, & cook apples until it gets soft, then I add little cinammon & vanilla extract. When it's done & add it to weetabix crumbles. Healthy, yummy & sweet :)

Forget about Rebecca - these sounds yummy! I'm going to be making them all for myself  :haha:

I might do apples like that for Hannah  sounds really good!

Crumble? Cook some fruit until nice and soft, and add a crumble mixture on top - you can use Organix biscuits / Plum biscuits (crumbled) on top for a very quick and easy crumble.

I make some very fruit based (low sugar) blueberry muffins that she loves - can PM you the recipe, if you like

Trifle, you can get the lumps from the sponge? I do a DIY one, just to keep an eye on the sugar

Egg custard tarts - you can either buy/make

Pancakes with different fillings

Good thing is lots of cakes can be made with very little sugar, and plenty of fruit. I tend to offer yoghurt as the most 'regular' dessert, but I find custardy types are also good for dairy etc. :D

I add vanilla icecream to my portion. :haha:

Ooh yes please. I'd love to try the recipe!

I am getting hungrier by the second reading these ideas

TennisGal - just reminded me, I made the blueberry muffins using your recipe the same day you sent it and they were yummy!! LO liked them too ;)

I think you should share the recipe with all of us, TG!

Here you go! DH and I eat them for brekkie quite often, Lizzie eats them whenever Mummy offers...! You can really vary the amount of sugar, we've got down to very little...and DH has got used to that ;)

250g blueberries - I always cut them in half, as it makes the juice run everywhere. Mmm!
200g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
125g caster sugar - this is according to recipe, I use a lot less
175ml milk or buttermilk (I use buttermilk, gives them a lovely rich taste)
2 eggs
150ml veggie oil (keeps them very moist)

Heat oven to 180c
Line muffin tray with papers/oil muffin tray
Sift flour and baking powder into sugar
In separate bowl whisk eggs, buttermilk and oil together til smooth
Make a well in middle of flour, and beat in wet ingredients until smooth (the quicker the better, so mix stays light)
Fold in blueberries
Stick in oven for about 25 mins or until muffins are golden brown.

Makes about 12 - or if using fairy cake moulds/paper cases, a good few more (less cooking time if using fairy moulds)

I made these a couple of days ago and they have proved VERY popular with Rebecca, DH and myself! Thanks for the great recipe

How is she going with the lumps and what not, WW1? Are you still having issues or have they sorted themselves out?

Thanks for asking :hugs:

I've tried her with rice pudding, muffins and lumpy pear with crumble on and she's coped with the lot!

I think it's more to do with the fact she's not as keen on the savoury stuff, not to do with the lumps. I'll have to keep plugging away - she can't eat just sweet stuff :dohh:

Heh, she'll get there. It's not uncommon for them to find sweet stuff more palatable.

Have you thought about trying something like a very mild korma which has a bit of sweetness to it, or tomato based sauces which also tend to be a bit sweet but still on the savory side?

Interestingly she does seem to like the sweeter savoury dishes (if you know what I mean!!) She also loves raw tomato so tomato based dishes tend to be more successful.

She will happily eat chicken, sweet potato and apple and spag bol. She also loves cauliflower cheese - although that is by no means sweet!

I like the idea of a korma - will try that!

Thanks :hugs:
