My husband is a diabetic who has suffered severe nerve damage... just wondering if anyone else out there has been down this particular road... and has any advice?

Hi,

my husband also has this problem, he has been type 1 diabetic for 25 years. We have twin girls who are 5 from ICSI but really wish to now concieve naturally.

We are now trying Sudafed but have so far over the last 3 cycles of trying been unsucessful. My husband says it does feel different using Sudafed so hopefully something is happening!

WOW~ we are in exactly the same boat! We are also trying the sudafed, did you find that online like I did? How much does your husband take?

Mine says EXACTLY the same thing, that it feels different... He swears that he is actually shooting something but I remember so well from previous partners that "wet spot" or the way it falls in your panties 4 hours later (gross I know) and I just NEVER experience that at all so it really makes me wonder whats going on up there... lol... Im sure you can relate!

yes, i found out about sudafed online. Infact when we had ICSI i had never heard of it and no medications were even offered to try berfore treatment.

My husband gets pains going up the side of his stomach normally, i guess from where the semen go into his bladder, but on sudafed he dosent get this, and exactly as you say i feel no wet patch or anything so am not sure if it i working! Keep meaning to pull out to check but thats bound to be the time something comes out!!!! We have tried different doses, we use the 12 hour sudafed and sometimes use 1 mid day then 1 about 1.5 hrs before dtd other times we use 2 1.5 hrs before dtd.

I always try to get him to take the 2 as figure a better chance of it working!! However this can cause other problems actually doing the deed if you know what i mean!!

What dose do you use??

I tried to inbox you so I could get a lil..."graphic", lol but it wouldnt let me? Anyway, we are taking waaay more then that. LOL He takes 4 30mg pills in the AM and 4 at night usually about 15 mins before we BD... sometimes he has taken an extra 2 before BDing and gotten a bit more punch! I found that dose somewhere on line? This is actually just our 2nd month of trying it... I totally understand about the other problems that can prevent the deed! But that hasnt been an issue with him... the sudafed doesnt seem to change that. Although we have MAJOR Issues with that anyway... does your husband? my poor baby has so much nerve damage that he cant really feel anything, unless he uses a ring (this is where I was going to get a lil graphic) have you guys tried that? If he doesnt have any erection issues then maybe the sudafed would cause them for him... but we do. HOWEVER... there are times even with the ring we cant get blood flow down there for various reasons, and the sudafed almost seems to accelerate the blood flow!

Hed KILL me if he knew I was on line saying all this I feel bad, lol... but this is our life and its nice to meet someone virtually who knows what Im going thru!

:D

i will try to figure out how to private message you! for exactly the same reasons you mentioned!!

The 12 hour sudafed is 120mg per tablet and we have 2 before BD and 1 mid day about 6 hours before. That is the max we have tried so far!

Will now to message you privately!

i need to make more posts, need to have done 5!!!! so heres one

Hi ladies – I know this thread hasn't been very active, but I'm hoping that maybe we can have a little discussion group for couples that are going through the same issue (and I joined the forum just for this thread).

We have just confirmed a diagnosis of RE for my husband, who also has Type I diabetes. He and I have had many discussions and have decided that talking about online and with fertility groups is GREAT, because it seems to be something that is not commonly thought of when discussing infertility. I guess we both feel that more awareness needs to be brought to the issue.

Anyway, we've been trying to conceive for about a year and a half now, and NOW are finally waiting for the referral to the fertility clinic. The urologist we saw said that sudafed can help, but not very reliably, and he was concerned about the level of side effects present in taking it on any sort of regular basis. He does think we are good candidates for IUI (and I hope that my regular cycles make this so)... so now we wait.

I look forward to hearing from you both!

hi ladies, can I join this discussion too? We are in the same boat, dh with type 1 and not being able to produce anything, we are ttc too. I have just ordered sudafed 60mg online as I cant get stronger than 30mg on high street. Can anyone give advice on how much he should take to start, he saw a urologist this week who has prescribed cialis for erection problems but never mentioned anything about sudafed. Im ovulating this week so thought we would give this a chance and see what happens. Im so happy to have found this forum, please keep posting..

Hi, we are in the same position - although no problem with erection by his swimmers are all escaping into the bladder. We will be giving the sudafed a go and will keep you posted if we have any luck! SO pleased there are others out there as Dr was not much help and referral is taking FOR EVER!

Hi all :) just to let u know we tried the sudafed last night 1x50g 1.5 hours before and another 15 mins before. BF did the business and boom! On orgasam out cam some sperm! Not loads but to go from nothing to something was great news x we might up the dose to 2 and 2 and try again to see if more comes out. Will keep u posted x

This appears to be the same thing that OH and I are looking into (his is from multiple surgeries, though, and not from diabetes). OH already takes Sudafed for allergies (pretty sure I read it does not work for surgical issues, unfortunately).

I hope that things work out for everyone! Much :dust: to One and All!

Hi Kalysia,
Sorry to hear u r goig through the same (although different cause) as us. Hopefully there will b something out there to help u x good luck t you too x

Just to say also, we tried sudafed last night too but only 1 60mg before bd and nothing really happened. Think we need to up the dose but just wanted to see what effect it had on dh diabetes first before playing about with it. He hardly slept a wink though, think he felt a bit restless. Will let you all know, we are gonna try up it tonight.

Just to say we r still using the sudafed - no baby so far but bought clearblue fertility monitor ready for next cycle so at least bf can fill up on sudafed at a more precise time!

Are you finding that the sudafed is really causing some ejaculation?? My DH started to get sick from taking so much but after MONTHS of trying it just never did anything!

I just keep hoping one day its going to put out a drop thats gonna be magic! anyone else have any more ideas?? or better yet, success stories!

Good luck ladies... and BIG hugs! its hard...:hugs:

So a year trying than three months on the sudafed diet and BFP today! I can't quite belive it after so many BFN. good luck to everyone it will happen!

my husband has the same problem. it goes into his bladder. he has had diabetes since he was 6 and has nerve damage. we have one daughter. she is 7 and we have been trying to conceive for 5 years. we have tried sudafed for almost 2 years. it did not work. he has been having this problem for 4 years and we are worried. we are very blessed that we have one child but would love to have a bigger family. i am also worried the older he gets the worse it will get. the urologist just says to keep trying but nothing is working.

Hi Ladies! I think I may have the same problem. My fiancee and I have been having unprotected sex (not really trying to get pregnant but not worried if it happens) for 2 years now. I thought it might be me, so I set up an appointment to have a fertility evaluation. This includes getting a semen sample from him. He is Type I Diabetic, and he had mentioned to me in the past the he doesn't always ejaculate. When I told him about the test he finally admitted that he almost NEVER ejaculates. Now he's really worried that he won't be able to provide a sample!

He has always been bad about his health, and hates going to the doc unless he has to. He never thought to ask his doc about this, so he hasn't had an actual diagnosis of RE. I decided to play doctor and I've been reading a bunch of stuff on the internet, which led me to this "diagnosis", and the treatment of taking Sudaphed.

So, I guess the question is, has Sudafed helped any of you? I saw that its been a few months since the first post, so I'm hoping (for you guys, too!) that it worked!

It worked for us x I am 18 weeks now and that is thanks to the sudafed and knowing when I was ovulating thanks to CM. give it a go it took a few tries but I totally belive it was the sudafed that did it for us .
