hello ladies, its me again, if i come in here any more often i think i'll be awarded a mug with my name on it and my own reserved parking space

i have got a hypnobirthing CD https://www.amazon.co.uk/Natal-Hypn...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247916328&sr=8-1

listened to it last night and it helped me relax but i didn't feel outter body experience if that makes sense, is that normal and will i get better at it as time progresses??

how often should i listen to it??

how did your hypnobirth go, any tips or suggestions

EEEEEKS Modo congratulations!

OP - I did the full course, but huuby was a bit sceptical so we didn't practice the actual trance-like stuff. If you can get the book as well as the CD it's great - the really important stuff is understanding HOW your body births and the relaxation techniques. I had half a pethidine when I was dilating rapidly, but didn't require any pain relief for the second stage, just concentrated on letting my body get on with it.

Good luck! x

thank you very much tulip, i am looking for the book just waiting on a good price (off work atm not getting paid and i hate asking OH for money)

i understnad how the body births, i just completed a 3yr anthropology degree, so know all about it in humans, primates and even cows....

I hypnobirthed. I used a CD, the Maggie Howell one. I found it really helpful in the early stages especially, I just sat cross-legged on the settee with my eyes shut focussing. Even later on when I was in the pool the relaxation was useful.

ETA: You shouldn't feel "out of body", just really relaxed. You might also not remember everything from when you're really deep.

Hiya, I did hypnobirthing and managed 9 pound 7 baby with no pain relief at all and was pushing at home so only had 40 odd minutes in the hospital before he was born. It was my first baby. I did get s bad tear though but didn't even realise. Like the previous posts said, you shouldn't feel hypnotised ad such just relaxed and calm and in control but all people are different, some may be more hypnotised or relaxed than others. I'd say my labour was still painful but not unbearable and I was very calm and in control but i could probably have used some of the techniques more effectively. I'd definitely recommend it though.

Lmao you'll be alright with the physiological side then :haha:

I might have a spare copy of the Mongan book (bought it before booking, then got one free with my course). Let me have a look in the morning.

I did it with my first and got to 8cm at home without any pain relief. Unfortunately she got completely stuck and had to be yanked out with forceps after four of the most unpleasant hours of my life. I really enjoyed the CD, I listened to it loads, it was super relaxing, and the course was interesting. If Tulip can't find the book, I know I have one you'd be welcome to, just PM me with your address and I'll chuck it in the post next week.

Thanks E, can't find mine for the life of me, I must have been organised and put it in the loft with my maternitywear :) Sorry MissMayhem!

Thought I would bump up this thread as just wanted to update with my experience of hynobirthing, so far!

I have been having classes with the lovely Rachel from www.birthpeacefully.co.uk , in SHeffield, and she has completely put me at ease, and I am now looking forward to labour!

I am not a stressed person but I am very impatient, so wanted to be able to relax myself pre and during labour. I have learnt some amazing techniques, and my husband has been able to feel a lot more involved too! Before he was worried about me being in pain and him not being able to do anything, whereas hypnobirth has helped give him a role during labour, and spend more time with bump beforehand!

I would say the classes are perfect for any mum to be wanting to have a calm labour - the videos of ther mums are just amazing, and I am sure my labour will be just as positive. Hypnobirthing has also taght me some great relaxation tips, which i can use after labour too. For anyone feeling sceptical, I wasn't sure that it would 'work' for me, but the music and scripts put me in such a state of calmness that I totally feel in a trance! If I'm relaxed, then my body will be relaxed, so less pain - brilliant!

Most of all, Rachel is an amazing woman, and someone I feel I can turn to with any stupid question, even if not hypnobirth related!

Hope to read about other people's experiences!
