Is it really possible?! I thought they don't start saying real words until a year or so but I just heard my 8 and a half month old baby saying "cat" over and over at the cat!! My husband said she was doing it the other day but I didn't believe him... until I saw it myself! Lucky coincidence perhaps? Or is this the real deal?

I'm not sure but I SWEAR my LO says kitty when the cat comes around :haha:

I'd say real deal if it was said in context!
Logan can say a few words in context and he's nearly 9 months

Many babies do say their first word around that age, so it's definitely possible. I'm sure it will become obvious over the next few days whether it's a "real" in-context word or just a coincidence, but it sounds like the real deal to me! :)

Definitely. Quinn was using duck in context at 8 months.

Haha Quinn and Emilia sound so similar. Duck is still one of her favourite words...and she goes over to the bath when i'm running it for her and quacks at her rubber duck too hehe x

To the OP, I certainly think it sounds possible, particularly since its being directed at the cat. Clever baby x

Her current favourites are shoes and bag.... She's definitely a girl!

Definitely possible!

When my LO was 8 months she started saying 'Mum' and now at nearly 10 months it's definitely in context as if I leave the room she starts saying it and if you ask her where Mum is she'll say it (sometimes!) and look at me.

I swear my LO said "puss" tonight.. She's obsessed with our cat and whenever we go "where's the puss cat?!" she looks around frantically :haha: Tonight the cat came up to her and me, OH and OH's friend swear we all heard her going "pussssssssssss" :haha:

Wow that's so cool! I honestly never knew they could talk this early! I got all excited and whipped ou the video camera and as soon as I hit record the damn cat ran off and she stopped saying it... typical!

She is a slow mover (still not crawling) so I dunno I kinda just guessed she would be a slow talker too, though I have heard it can go the other way.

Real deal if he said it at the cat lol. My little girl was definitely using loads of words in context before the age of one, by the age of one she knew like all her family members names and loads of animals so that's about right for 8 months, proud mummy moment! X

Yes yes yes. My lo has been saying 'sit' to the dogs since about that age!

My LO has been saying mama(out of context) and up when she stands up, because I say "Do you wanna stand up" or something along the lines so she says up up up as shes standing up :haha: though its usually whispered
