Just popping over from the second trimester. I have had my first antenatal appointment through , just wondering if anyone took there OH with them ?

I took mine along, his work said he was entitled to the time off as they are on a wednesday morning at 10. He really wanted to go and I wanted him there too :)

We had evening classes which meant OH was able to attend, definantly an eye opener for him as he's been rubbish reading up on labour & what to expect.

Mine did - my hospital had evening classes for couples/people who wanted their birthing partner there with them.

Do you mean antenatal appointments (like with the midwife etc) or antenatal classes?

My husband hasn't been to any midwife appointments, he has been to one consultant appointment and some of my scans (12week, 20 week and one of my growth scans). I don't think there'd be any point in him taking time off for midwife appointments.

He came to our NCT antenatal classes - they are aimed at couples so would have been weird if he didn't.

OH came to the two classes at night and he found them great.

He hasn't been to any midwife appointments, but comes to consultant appointments and scans.

My DH has been to all scans with me but didn't see the point of him taking time off to see the midwife with me. We have 2 antenatal classes and he will be attending both of those with me. He also came to the tour of the birth centre xxx

Thanks :)

This is my NHS antenatal class , I would like him to be there and he said he would too. Its really nice that he likes being involved so I think he will come along , just didnt want him to be the only one :)

Deffinitely. It is just as important for them to go as it is us I think. Because they learn what will be happening as well and also they give great tips to our partners of how they can help comfort us, different massage techniques, how to just be there, tips on dealing with our attitudes sometimes. And so they can help us through the whole thing helping guide us if we get off track or something. Ways to help encourage us. It is great for them to go.

My OH has been to as many antenatal appointments as he could make (3 so far) - he's self employed though so has just fit them in around work. And we had one antenatal class that he came to, it would have been weird going by myself as it was full of couples. Hoping to try and fit in a few more antenatal classes before baby gets here but it depends on where he's working as they start at 6pm and he sometimes doesn't get in till after then.

i went on sat to one at poole hospital with OH and found it to be a waste of time, came out as clueless as he went in, it was all about pain relief and low risk birthing suite which i cannot use..... grrr

i've read up on pain relief and passed my views clearly on to him, its my body and my labour he has no say in what pain relief a can or cannot use......

When I was pregnant with my first I insisted that my hubby came with me. He is a farmer and works long hours so often have to go to things on my own but I really didn't want to be the only one there on her own. When we turned up he was the only man and spent all evening giving me 'see I told you looks'. The next week I said dont bother i'll go on my own and all the other ladies had bought their husbands!!! It was so funny. At the last class none of us took our partners!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeh mine did i practically had to drag him along but he actually really enjoyed the breast feeding one it was really interesting :D xx

oh wow , im giving birth at poole hospital but my anti natal will be at bournemouth

I brought mine to antenatal classes but not to midwife appointments.

At the classes I would say 90% of people brought their OH. Mine were on weekday mornings so I was glad my husband's work let him have flexi to go to it.

i hope bournemouth's class is better, the issue i think is i am a tad of a control freak and i need to know what is happening to me, so i had read up on all the pain relief options already, therefore i knew all about them!

i also had read up on breastfeeding

i was expecting to learn things like, how to bath a newborn, change and nappy, SIDS guidelines, but that was not covered

so i shall be taking myself off to a bumps and babies group most likely in poole if you wish to join me

I had my antenatal classes in a once of 4hour block. OH really wanted to go which I was pleased about. Its our first baby so he wanted some reassurance and more knowledge. I dont take him to my MW appointments tho.
