Me and my OH have been calling our baby by the nickname Dio, since we knew he existed. Dio is an ex member of Black Sabbath and several other legendary bands and his own solo project. Dio means God in Italian too
My OH has been saying for the last few weeks that if the baby is a boy then maybe we should call him Dio, I wasn't so sure.
Ronnie James 'Dio' passed away today at the age of 67 of stomach cancer :(

Now I'm confused as to whether this would be a suitable boys name . ??

What y'all think?

Lol xx

ps I'll prob end up having a girl and not having to worry after all!!

I like it! Used to know a teenager named Rio & everyone loved her name! If you and OH like it -- go for it!

I'm not sure if I like it or not, but I think it's perfectly "suitable" for a boy. Is it pronounced like Rio with a D, or Dye-o? I think you have an interesting reason for choosing it.

I voted yes before I read what you wrote about the name. I thought it was Italian and I still do like it a lot but because it means "god" in Italian he might have a lot to live up to if you know what I mean!

But whatever if you don't feel like it's right then don't go for it! Maybe you could still keep it as a nickname but have an "official" name he can use at school/on passports etc etc x

I think it's suitable for a boy, but I'm not sure if I'd use it for a formal name. It would be nice for a nickname though x

I wouldn't use it personally, but agree that it could be good as a nickname x

Oh i really like it! Its certainly suitable, i think its very cool and would be a wonderful story behind why his name was chosen. It all comes down to what you think of it though xxx

aww thanks for all the replies guys :)
Pretty positive - I'm thinking we >have< a boys name now!
Gotta be Dio!
\m/
Lol xx

Dio Died today?! I'll have to break it to hubbs he's a huge fan, so am I. I love love love holy diver. It was the inspiration for me to get a giant tiger tattoo on my side, Long story, long time ago. I think Dio is a great name, very original. It will be entertaining whenever you introduce baby to a black sabbath/Ronnie james dio fan. And those who don't know the music will think it's a clever name too. I'm loving it!

aaawww, im a massive Dio fan too. i'd love Dio as a boys name, but OH thinks it would be a cool nick name. which sucks, as he has picked every name so far, and i havent even got a look in :'(

I know it's not pronounced Di-o but do you not think he might get called Dio-rrhea?

Just my input.

I've had a similar dilema with choosing a girl's name....I like Bo/Beau but people have said it will be called Bogey or B.O (body odour) x

Kids are always mean - can't do much too help that - but hopefully that link won't be made, it is pronounced like Rio so they may not make the link just cos its not phonetically similar.... I see what ur saying in spelling though- good job my surname isn't Rea :winkwink::haha:

I really like ur girls names - we just gonna have to toughen up our kids so they stand up to bullies :D
Lol xx

I suppose - you can go with Richard and be called Dick so I suppose bogey and diarrhea is nothing :haha:
