We paid for a scan on Saturday and were told we were having another boy. I was browsing Irish name websites last night as my DS is Aidan so wanted another Irish name. I discovered a name and fell in love with it right away. It's the name QUIN (pronounced Kwin). My late grandmothers maiden surname was Quin and she passed before I was conceived and my father was 17. As soon as I saw it my heart was racing and I had to have it.

Do you think it's a nice Irish name for a boy? And would you think my father would like it or be upset? I don't want to ask him til we 100% decide xx

I like it, prefer the spelling Quinn :)

Usually the name (here in Ireland anyway) is spelled quinn.
It's not a name irish people would generally use as a first name but I believe it's quite common for people of irish decent to use a surname as a first name.
its a lovely tribute.

I like it :). I'd spell it Quinn as that is what I'm used to (it was my grandmas surname too), but I'm sure people will know how to pronounce it if you do go for Quin.

Quinn to me is quite a feminine looking spelling as I know a few girls with that name, it's beautiful. So in that respect I like Quin for a boy as I do think that looks more masculine.

It's a nice name either way :)

I love Quinn for a boy. It was one we considered when I was pregnant with my son.

Love the name Quinn. Prefer it as a girls name, but still think its lovely for a boy.

I really like Quinn for a boy. I knew a male Quinn in my first couple of years of university and I always thought how much I loved his name! I definitely think it's more popular for girls at this point (at least where I live), but for some reason that makes me like it even more for a boy.

I also prefer the 'Quinn' spelling.

Quinn is become quite popular especially with girls (kevin smiths daughter harley quinn for example) so that might be worth considering but its up to you if you want to name your son after family

Have you read the Southern Vampire Mysteries (what true blood is based on)? There is a Quinn in this books. He's a weretiger. Don't know if that's a good thing to you or not. (I think it's cool... But I love those books!)

Thanks for all the replies. We'd go for the Quin spelling as that's how my gran's surname was spelt and also OH loves the name but thinks Quinn looks more feminine xx
