The last couple of days, I've had these NASTY burps. I swear it's like vomit/fish/bile and every time I burp, I gag. It's only a matter of time before it makes me throw up. Plus my stomach is so tender - how is my heartburn this bad this early? Please tell me it gets better. I'm already taking Pepcid - can I take Gaviscon with it?

OMG i have the exact same thing! I only got my bfp on monday and already i cant stop burping! and horrible ones that make me feel sick!!! its so bizarre, im so glad someone else has this and its not just me imagining it! x

I don't have the burps but I do get a lot of heartburn and I take Rennie for it. They are not lovely in taste (though I think spearmint is better than the regular) but definitely better than Gaviscon. That taste is just too horrible, but that is of course a matter of tastebuds ;)

Is Rennie available only in the UK? I'm in the US and have never heard of it. I guess I need to call my doctor (again!) and see if I can take something along with the Pepcid.

Oh sorry I am not sure, didn't realise they are not international. I know they have them on the Continent as well. But I am thinking Gaviscon's taste is the same over there and.... I don't actually know Pepcid. What is it for?

I've been taking Tums for the acid and Gas-X when the bloating fills my stomach up so much that I can't breathe...

The tums sometimes help stop the acid-burps for me - but not always...

And you still get heartburn? Yeah you need something else. One type should do it and I don't think taking Gaviscon on top of the Pepcid would be a good idea. I am guessing there is also a limit on how many one is allowed to take in a day? If so, mixing and matching would make keeping track a bit difficult. Hope your horrid symptoms go away soon xxx

Yes, Angel. I was on omeprazole for GERD before I got pregnant and my doctor wasn't comfortable with keeping me on that so she suggested Pepcid. Now I don't know what to do - it's very uncomfortable and my god, the taste!

I totally feel for you! Heartburn has been with me all my life too as that valve thingy in my oesophagus doesn't shut properly. I hope your doc will find something better for you you poor thing!

I hate calling them again. I feel like I'm the pain in the ass patient that they can't stand. I know I need to get over it and just call but I still feel silly.

Hey but maybe you too have a malfunctioning lower esophageal sphincter (or LES)! They found out with me when they did a gastroscopy but that was for something else, so I am not sure what the tests usually are. But surely it is worth finding out? In the meantime I'd stay away from certain foods such as:
acidic foods and drinks, such as caffeinated drinks, decaffeinated coffee, and orange juice.
Avoid alcohol, chocolate, spearmint, and peppermint. They can relax the lower esophageal sphincter.
Avoid carbonated beverages.

With the fish burps, it's from the fish oil capsules (if you are taking them). I hate them! - but I still take them. It seems to help when I take them with OJ and food. I haven't had heartburn too bad with this pregnancy (yet), but I had it really bad with the last one. Nothing seemed to help. :-(

Oh god... as I sip on a cup of peppermint tea hoping it will help. Ugh.

It probably will be worth finding out. I was diagnosed based on family history and tenderness when pushing on that area of the stomach. Is the treatment the same for GERD as it is for LES?

I am taking fish oil but it's the same brand I've taken since the beginning and I take them at night with my prenatal so I'm sure it's not them. It's definitely more of a heartburn issue.

As far as I am aware GERD is the result of a malfunctioning LES, isn't it? Sorry I must have missed it if you mentioned that you had been diagnosed with it. I am thinking you have it worse than me though or it has become worse with being preggers cause so far I am managing ok with my over the counter meds. Sending you lots of sympathy and hope you get it sorted soon xxx
