Even when we are trying to go somewhere fun, my son will run away if it's time to get dressed. I know it's all a game to him, but it's getting very frustrating. How common is it for kids to do this? It's EVERY day!

Me: Do you want to go to the park?
Son: Okay!
Me: Let me put your shoes/jacket/new diaper/whatever on then…
Son: *runs away* (or runs to the door naked and barefoot)

How many kids do this?

*sighs* mine!!!
Also plays the game of.... I start to put jacket on. "No, Daddy do it". Daddy puts jacket on, he starts to put shoes on "blood curdling scream, Muuuuummmmy do it"!!! Fun, fun, fun. Very lame, and tiresome game.

Sophie has an obsession with dressing so she doesn't do this, but she runs away when it is bedtime and keeps insisting that she hasn't given daddy a kiss goodnight. Same thing every evening.

DD will run if I try to put regular clothes on her, but if I say "socks and shoes!" she will run to the closet where our shoes are stored and retrieve them for me. She has a miniature slide set in her bedroom, and her new thing is to crawl under there and hide when I mention clothes or diaper. :dohh:

Yes my daughter does this too. Doesn't bother me too much but it annoys my oh alot.

I wish Sophie hated dressing, she will change her clothes 5 times in a row and there are clothing items scattered all over the house!

And this!:dohh:

Mine does this even when we are dressing her to go somewhere that she really wants to go! She has been a little better with it lately though, so hopefully we are nearing the end of this phase!

mine.. she hates clothes and will scream bloody murder about most types of clothes anyway. After making sure it's clothes she likes I spend an hour putting clothes on with her fighting me, she takes each item off before I can get the next one on., its exhausting. I've also had her decide mid shopping trip and a park trip that she needed to strip naked while screaming and running away.

Violet does this, but we also don't change her clothes every day if they're still clean. Sometimes she'll go through a couple items of clothes in a day and other times we'll find that she keeps the same clothes clean for days... and we change them because it's been a few days. Of course dressing does come into play on a daily basis because of using the potty and getting a diaper on and off her for naps and night. She hasn't been too bad with running away lately, but she's certainly had her phases of being pretty bad with it. However, if we're not trying to get somewhere by a certain time, I don't chase her. I figure she has the right to be naked within the comfort of her own home. If it's cold, she'll eventually ask for clothes. If It's a matter of going somewhere fun, I just tell her we'll leave when she has clothes on and I'll tell her to let me know when she's ready to get dressed. If it's at a time where it just needs to happen, I tell her what I'm doing and why and then I just get her dressed.

In the morning she'll freak because she wants to keep her pjs on, and in the evening she'll freak because she wants to keep her clothes on. And yes to the running away during the day when it's time to put on/take off coats and shoes!

Paige never really done it, but Ella does! I pretend to chase her for a few minutes and then 'catch' her. I think its quite cute

Mine runs away when it's time to get dressed, runs away when it's time to bring her big brother to school, runs away while I'm settling him in his class, runs past the parked car when we're leaving school....... you get the picture!!!! Drives. Me. Mad.

She is cute and veeeeeery lovable though! So I think I'll keep her!

Mine still does this. Honestly, it's gotten much better since I started the whole "Okay, you let me know when you're ready to get dressed/put shoes on/etc." and then wait for him to come to me. I took hours at first, so I'd start first thing in the morning, but now it's almost instantaneous he'll say "Okay, me get dressed now". Whereas, with DH, who still prefers to wait until last minute, make chase, and dress him through the fighting and giggling, he still runs away and will not come to get dressed before dh gives up and makes chase.

Mine! He runs away when it's time to get dressed in the morning, does exactly the same thing at night! :dohh:

Also screams blue murder when it's nappy change time and wriggles and tries to get away all the way through. Not too bad with just a wet nappy, but absolutely no fun with a dirty one!!

Mine still does this although sometimes she will cooperate now. It was worse about a year ago when she would ask to put something on then kick off because it was on, we'd take it off, you guessed it she would kick off! At least once it's on now we are (usually) safe :haha:
