Do cankles/swollen feet lead to bedrest?

My ankles and feet have been swelling a lot the past couple of days (was usually sporadic before). I was telling one of my work colleagues about them and she gave me lots of advice and ideas on what to do to help reduce the swelling. She said that if they continue I might be ordered to bedrest. Is that true? I don't see my midwife until Thursday and I really want to be able to do my last week at work next week.
Anyone ever heard this?

I had swelling from 17 weeks with my first and it is more common with first pregnancies especially towards the end. I never went on bedrest and actually worked past my due date. Although sudden swelling can be a sign of preeclampsia and they would put you on bedrest if you have other signs for that.

That's what I thought but what my friend said kind of worried me a bit so thought I'd check. Cankles are not attractive

I've had swollen feet for months and no one has said anything to me about bed rest. I've never seen anyone on here say they've been on bed rest because of that either.

Haven't heard that before. Have heard elevating your legs can help reduce the swelling.

I've had severely swollen ankles since around 17 weeks and no one has ever mentioned any bed rest to me! :D The doctor just reccomended elevating them and not standing for too long. x

I had it for the last couple of months of my first pregnancy and never had to go on bedrest :)

I've had swelling in my feet and ankles for a few months now, and sadly no bedrest for me. Elevating your legs whenever u get a chance can help. For me, I'm just resigned to my cankles and wearing flipflops until I give birth, since none of my shoes fit anymore.

Same here, only flip flops seem to fit or are at least comfortable. Hopefully the weather stays dry, I hate wet toes! I try and elevate them as much as possible but there's no chance at work so just have to deal with it. The joys of pregnancy!

Elevate them as much as possible and drink lots of water. Bedrest should not be necessary unless you have had other problems - such has high BP etc.

Yeah I do this anyway, it was just what my colleague said that kind of panicked me a little (I'm a natural worrier). This is why I always ask things on here as everyone has great advice.
