Do I turn down this opportunity because I'm ttc?

DH and I are both 33 years old and have been ttc for 8 months, after waiting 10 months for depo effects to wear off.

I currently work full time and have been offered the chance to do a PGCE in post compulsory education. Problem is, I'd have to carry on working full time, teach part time and study part time. I'm worried that putting myself under all that pressure would affect my chances of conceiving. I know that it would be good to focus on something other than ttc but would this just be too much?

I'm thinking I should maybe defer it for a year, get some debts paid off and cut down on my outgoings, then I could afford to work part time and study (if LO hasn't come along by then!).

Being a mum is much more important to me than being a teacher and at 33 I don't have many more years to try...but on the other hand do I pass up an opportunity like this for something that may never happen???

Any advice or opinions would be gratefully received!

its such a hard thing to decide, i got offered a job and never took it now i wish i did! because u can always quit or get another job and having debts and things payed off b4 would really help when bubbs comes along .... not really shore if thats helpd but good luck xx

ive been ttc for 3yrs now and i put everything on hold, still no luck but i go back 2 college on 13th to so social work and then uni next yr, if it happens great but i need something else 2 concentrate on otheriwse i drive myself insane, some ppl mite say that studyin may take ya mind of it n let nature takes its course.....im also doin a nvq level 2 for work......arrrggghhhhh nightmare but hey ho thats life!!!xxxxx

It's a tough one - here's the thing, you don't want to regret not doing the PGCE, because the reality is, if you do fall pregnant you probably will never do it...but if you do go ahead and do the PGCE you can still "work" on getting pregnant... You could luck out and get everything you want....

Only you know what you want, and what is right for you...

I did my PGCE at Strathclyde in Glasgow - LOVED it, and the time went by SO quickly!

I'm from Glasgow :)

MiniMel, I'm in a similar situation. I think your decision to defer for a year is worth a go - maybe try a more casual approach to TTC - not trying/not preventing while concentrating on paying off debts and getting things in order for when baby comes.

Just wanted to say thanks to the ladies who replied (this was my first post!), it was good to hear some opinions from people who actually know what it's like trying to live your life while also ttc.

Have decided to wait until next September when I will hopefully be in the position to work part time and study part time. My job is pretty stressful and I'm already having a hard time trying to give up smoking and lose weight!

Thanks again for your help - good luck on your ttc journey and sending lots of baby dust your way!!!
