So here is the dilema..me, my DH and my DD all have names that start with "A" (except my DH uses a nickname not starting with "A"). We just found out we are having baby #2 and we already know that if its a boy he will be named after my DH so his name will also be an "A" name.

BUT, what if its a girl...should we continue with the "A" tradition. It was never really planned to have all A names, its just the names we like. I'm afraid the one kid w/out an "A" would feel left out??

If you like an A name then sure, but don't choose one with that letter just for the sake of it.

I don't think she would feel left out, I have two sisters both start with A and I am an E :) I didn't feel left out. I also picked 2 H names for my children and my next one won't be an H, I only ended up with H's by chance not on purpose :) Unless the name you like is A, then just pick a name :)

I would personally break the chain ;) I don't think a baby without an A name would feel left out at all.

my DH was persistent when we found out that our second was a boy that he have the same initials as him and our first boy but in the end we couldnt agree on any J names but they did end up with an L middle name but we broke that chain with our girl...my honest opinion is if you try to hard to make their names go they can end up sounding like twins and I really dont like twins having to similar names much less just siblings so Id only go with an A name if its the name you just love but if not break that tradition! my boys names do not go together at all though  but they fit them both perfectly :)

i would stick with the 'A' name, if this one isn't a boy but the next is then the boy will for sure get an 'A' name,, i think the kid would feel left out if they didn't get an 'A' name too..

We have a family friend who named all their boys with A names, all the girls with Z names. 5 kids - all As or Zs.

Practicality-wise... I have the same initial as my brother and found it a pain in the rear when stuff came in the post to J.Bloggs with no Mr/Miss/Mrs - really annoyed a teenager wanting her privacy when her mail got accidentally (or gave my mother an excuse to do it more like in my case) opened a lot. Main reason I've vetoed any names with either mine or hubby's first letter in our case - but it's a personal thing of mine.

I think my DH agrees no "A" for a girl...maybe we'll do "V" since its like an upside down A :haha:....

I would only do it if I really loved the name, wouldn't just do it to be all the same, esp if your hubby doesn't generally go by an A name, don't think the kid would notice that much?

I would probably stick with names beginning with A but i wouldn't compromise if there was a name that I really liked better that didn't begin with A.
