do you have to pay for scans? UK

hii, was just wondering whether you had to pay for a scan or not and how many you get?

if you do have to pay for them, how much?

Nope not unless you go private. You get a 12 weeks scan and a 20 week scan. Sometimes if baby is measuring small etc, then you will be given extra scans. You pay for any pictures though that you decide to get.

I believe the extra ones are free as it is for health reasons of your child that you would be put forward for them. Most won't need these, so expect you will only have a 12 week and a 20 week scan.

wow that's a lot of scans.... it's usual to just have two. I've only had two each for both my pregnancies.

34week one is rubbish as babys too big so I bet 40 weeks will be terrible lol

Here 3 is the normal ammount 13, 21, 34 now the new thing is 40 which I feel is pointless xxx

Awh that's nice you get an extra one then! Yeah 40 weeks does sound a little bit pointless :/

And Mummy2BeShamz since you're in Essex too, I would think you would only have the two scans like meee Can always ask at your first GP appointment how many scans you are likely to have.

I got three, 8 weeks, 12 weeks (was at 13+4 though) and 20 weeks (was at 20+4). The 8 week one i got because of my previous miscarriage. They were all free. The pictures were too at my hospital.

I got 3
one at 27 weeks, one at 34 weeks and one at 36 weeks (didnt find out until 25 weeks that i was pregnant)

the third one was because they were concerned about fluid levels.
oh and i was supposed to pay for photos (but the scanner felt sorry for me and gave me them for free)

the only scans you have to pay for are the 3d/4d ones or one where you have them done at a private clinic as far as im aware on the uk.

nope, i was on the pill

and yeah most places do charge you for scan photos.
the 2 different ones ive been to charge £5 for whatever they take.
