to the hospital when you are due to take baby home?

Hubby reckons we should.. he said leaving the hospital trying to carry the bags, newborn baby in a car seat and me being in, well, some sort of pain, so probably not being able to carry much sounds stressful.. he reckons popping him in the pram will be the easiest way to leave...

What you think?:flower:

could be a good idea, depends how far you have to walk... xx

sounds like quite a good idea to me to be honest. The only downside i can think of is if the pram is a little big it may get in the way a little when on way down but that's the only thing and probably wouldn't make a difference anyway lol x

The car park should be near the hospital? So maybe it would be better to make a few trips instead?

I was thinking something similar but for different reasons. My dad drives a black taxi and I want him to pick me up - Its easy to get in and out of a taxi, well alot easier than my low seated car.

I only live a 5 min max drive away from the hospital too and I like the idea of OH in the back with us. So shall I take the pram too???

yeah, thats the thing, I suppose it depends what time we turn up to the hospital, as the car park is quite busy in the day and we'll end up right at the back having to walk up to the hospital.. i suppose we could do it in a few trips..

Just didn't want to seem silly turning up with a pram! Weird I know!!

Don't see why not? I will be sending DH down with the bags to put them in the car then drive up to the maternity unit entrance to pick me and baby up from the door so we don't have to walk to the car. At least that is what we did when we had DS.

there's absolutely no way i could fit my pram in my car along with my bags and the car seat, and you couldn't really put the bags in on the back seat for safety reasons. but if you can fit it in, then why not? your hubby could always take the bags out to the car first though if it's not too far to walk. xx

You may find that the hospital will want to see that you do have a carseAt, I know that the hospital I'm going to won't let u leave unless they can see you have a carseat

Was going to say exact same thing. They'll probably tell your OH to bring car up near entrance, take all the bags out first & then come back with the car seat before they let baby out of the hospital. Our midwive escorted us to the door actually holding the car seat - DH wasn't even allowed to carry the seat to the door

i was told that it because the child is their responsibility until you leave the hospital - which is why they won't let you carry it! not sure how true that is but it makes sense.. same at my hospital. x

I'm on crutches and it's quite a walk from the maternity unit to the hospital car park, so I think the plan is for hubby to clip the carseat onto the pram frame, then he can push the baby and carry the bags while I hobble along side!

With both mine whoever was collecting me took the bags down first then came back for me and little one, midwives escorted us to the door and whoever was picking me up had to drive the car round to the main entrance, think midwife also stayed until car seat was actually put in car, one thing remember not to send the cot tag away in your bag as a souvenier as midwifes check numbers against their files and babies hospital tags, we had taken ours off and packed them away oops!

Where I am the hospital won't let you leave without a carset, buggy or not. We took our carseat and went I went in we had my hospital bag DD's little bag and then I was given more crap (bounty packs/advice leaflets/maternity notes) OH made a few trips, Takes a bit longer but makes no odds. After I had DD all I wanted to do was sit down so OH making the extra trips were a blessing really

EDIT:OH was also allowed to carry DD out xxx

Were not bothering with a pram theres no need, OH will just take the bags to the car then come back with the car seat :D

We just took the carseat, you won't need the pram to be honest.

oh wow, you wouldn't think it would be so complicated to get your lo out and home!! Our car seat clips straight onto the pram frame, so I suppose we could just let the MW push the pram!?

Thanks for the tip about the hospital bands, dont want to have to be routing through the bags to find it again!

I'm going to send OH down with the bags, after going through labour I doubt I will get any complaints from him! Besides, our men are our big strong muscles :winkwink: He can then hopefuly meet me with the car at the front of the hospital and I'll take the baby with me. Ohhhh I'm so excited about getting home with her! I'm going to give her the guided tour lol!!xx

Are you at WRH? If so, I know what you mean about the car park - your car may be in A & E!

Personally, I think that if the car seat clips onto the pram base it's a really good idea - if it is that hospital there will be plenty of room to manouvere it around. I've never seen a midwife escorting parents out with the baby there, I think they just let you get on with it once discharged.

Bearing in mind what the parking is like there, your other half probably won't be able to get the car round to the front as that's usually rammed too!
