I'm 12dpo with a very pretty positive line! When should I call my doctor? Some people say i should call at 8weeks and just get a really good prenatal, but I can't imagine waiting that long.

Also which prenatals do you suggest?

Where I am and the place I plan to use they won't do anything till 8 weeks so I am just waiting till I think I am 8 to go. I have been taking a walgreens prenatal for few months now.

You definitely want to go ahead and start your prenatal as soon as possible! Do not wait for the doctor. Go ahead and call the doctor to make your appointment so that you will get in at the right time.

I think it depends where you are in the world, I'm in the uk and last time I was told by the doctors receptionist to see the doctor at 6 weeks which I did and he then basically made me feel like I was wasting his time because it was so early he booked my scan though and then I started with my midwife at 9 weeks. This time though I phoned the doctors at about 7 weeks to get an appointment and couldn't even get in to see anybody until nearly 10 weeks and apparently they've changed the system now so I won't see the midwife until later.

When I called to make my 8 week appt my doctor phoned in a prescription for a prenatal so I didn't have to wait. Most doctors in the US would do this as there is nothing in a prenatal that will hurt you even if you aren't pregnant. For women in my are a who can't tolerate taking a prenantal vitamin, the most common substitution seems to be Flintstones vitamins!

I took flintstones with my 3 girls because of severe nausea! This time around I went to the health food store and got Vitamin Code Raw prenatals. They have ginger in them to supposedly help with nausea, so thought I'd give it a shot!

I'd call your doctor right away and see when they want to see you.

Are you in the states? There's a store here in the midwest that you can get them for free with a RX.

If you have a reason to go early (certain meds, high risk etc) then you should try to get in early, but other than that, just deal with your regular doctor and wait for the referral... Your regular doctor can send you for bloodwork and/or an ultrasound i need be :) Congrats on your pregnancy!!:hugs:

I just take the Walmart brand prenatal and my OB/GYN says that it's perfectly fine. I would go ahead and call your OB/GYN to see if they will go ahead and let you schedule your 8/9 wk appointment, the sooner, the better.

Also, I remember you from WTT - Congrats!!

They gave me a 7 week appointment for an induction appointment, and a 12 week appointment for a scan!
