I'm in the process of having my 5th consecutive chemical, went to doc today and he virtually went . He's going to examine me next week in case of fibroids but in his words 'it's a long shot'. I asked about other options and he said to just keep trying. Apparently the policy in Norfolk is not to see anyone for fertility treatment if they have already had a child with their current partner. Surely there must be other tests he can do?

that's a bit pants hun :(

i'm reading 'is your body baby friendly' at the moment and I'd recommend it for finding out about why these things happen

you could try and get some ideas from this and then take your thoughts to a different doctor to see if you can get them to listen/send you for tests xx

Sorry to hear about this. All I know is that here (Devon) they won't do any tests or look into anything to do with losses until you have had 3 miscarriages, which sucks.

I'm from Norfolk also and my doctor practically spat out his tea when I suggested the possibility of fertility tests when me and DH got to a year of trying, he had no idea where to evwn start, we fell preg shortly after but ended in mmc at 6.5 weeks unfortunately. Some doctors are so useless

That policy sucks! You should try another doctor...sorry to hear what you have been through. :hugs::hugs:

Hi hun, if I were you I would definately change doctors and perhaps even make a complaint. To me the way they have treated you is just not good enough.

Have you tried anything yourself like aspirin?

Yes last month I took aspirin, b6 and prenatals but to no avail

But there's no reason he can't refer you for investigation in to recurrent mc - you aren't having trouble conceiving but implanting so this is different to fertilty treatment ( and I'm sure that is more in relation to ivf ) - I would contact the miscarriage association for advice - as far as I am aware recurrent chemicals should be treated as any recurrent mc.

Again - this isn't fertility treatment - it is treatment / investigation in to recurrent mc.

I would take your oh or close family member / friend as back up and request to be referred to gynae specialists - gp's are just that "general" and not "specialist".

Also - if you can get info on your rights from the miscarriage association that may also help you when asking for referral - gp's generally respond a little better if you know your rights.

Sorry for the rant - I think it's awful that you are left without answers!

PS - the RCOG set standards for care in gynaecological care - here's a link to their patient info in to what to expect in treatment for recurrent mc - I would also print this out and take to the doctors with you.

Thanks for your help- I'll def follow that up. Had exam today from gp; no fibroids or anything else so thats good.He says I have to have a break from ttc for 3 MONTHS! I think he just couldn't think of anything else to suggest. I'm 43 ffs- no time to waste!

Grrr what an absolute crock! You poor thing having such a shit gp!! Policy should be you are referred after one year of failing to conceive if under 35, six months if over 35 and just three months if over forty. I would see a different gp and request acreferral to a specialist. Failing that you could always look at a private clinic but obviously they cost and you should not be having to pay. Google nhs guidelines for failing to conceive and then throw the book at him. Good luck and tons of baby dust to you!!! X x x

Well, I checked out Norfolk policy and he's right- u have to be under 39 and have no children with your present partner to be seen. However my problem isn't failure to conceive but not being able to hold a pregnancy so- I don't think he's seeing the difference :growlmad: xx

Im 42 and had the same problem, they wernt all chemicals, but 4 miscarriages in 7 months total, 5 pregnancies in 8 months. Mine turned out to be an implantation issue and I required daily heparin shots to get where I am today, yours may not be. The only thing I can suggest that you can do in the meanwhile while trying to get the docs to listen to you is to up your folic acid dose. Repeat mc's depleat your folic acid and in turn when you are low in folic acid you can miscarry. I was taking 1300 daily instead of the recommended 400-800. Good luck hun, hope you can get somewhere and get some answers!:hugs:

That is terrible. I think that you should change your doctor.. he should definitely be looking into it. Good Luck.

wow I did'nt know that about folic acid. My health care providers have'nt supplied me with that information. Apparently pineapples can have a detrimental effect on implantation....though also read that they can assist implantation....
