Hi everyone

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about natural progesterone cream

I have a really short luteal phase (6 days). I generally ovulate late in a 26-28 day cycle.

I have had loads of tests done. My fsh is ok. Ultrasounds have shown I do ovulate and my lining is ok throughout my cycle. I have progesterone tests done which confirm i ovulate late. My progesterone seems ok for a couple of days after I ovulate but then I get af a few days later. This has made me wonder if my progesterone level drops sharply 4-5 days after ov (I have read this can be common) - though I haven't had this tested yet.

I am so sick of my fs. I had an ultrasound on day 18 this month which showed a ripe follicle but no ov. He gave me a hcg trigger (don't know why as I would have ovualted soon after anyway!!!!!) Anyway I am at 4 dpo now and the hcg is out of my system. I am really scared of losing a fertilised egg so am applying approx 30 mg natural progesterone cream daily in case my levels fall inducing af. I have read that there are not any side effects of this and it is a common practice.(by the way - I didn't have time to discuss this fully with my fs as he was in a rush and needed to get to another appointment - great!!)

Does anyone know anything more about this. Would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks xxxx:thumbup:

Hi silarose,
I think I have a similar situation- I've got a 26 day cycle that doesn't seem to change even when I ovulate late (which just happened on clomid), and post-O temps seem fine, but then they fall just as I approach day 26, no matter how many days post ovulation I am.
Did you decide to use the cream on your own, or did the doctor suggest it? I've thought about trying it myself, but wasn't sure. Let us know how this works for you!
I agree, FS are very frustrating.

I take Prometrium which is an oral progesterone. I take 200mg a day starting once ovulation has been confirmed (or 2 dpo just to be sure). The suppositories can be hard on you, or so I have heard. I have heard that it can cause dryness, itching, and even sores? Perhaps see if you can get on an oral one. Also, I take Clomid to increase my levels of progesterone.

Hey you two (oops three!), I've been using progesterone vaginal inserts for the last two cycles because my temps aren't stable after O. My doc says to keep using them until I get AF whether or not I get a BFN or not in one of my early testing frenzies.
This is my second cycle using progesterone and I can't distinguish symptoms which I didn't already attribute to clomid in the first round which were mainly just cramps.
Next cycle I'll be starting with FS and praying for a good one. From their side, I know I ask a lot of questions, but from my side, that is what we're paying them for! :)

p.s. I also need to mention that two of my doc's partnering doctors who saw me when she was away this last cycle have told me they didn't think progesterone makes any difference in the LP. I stayed with it though because my doc prescribed it, but still feel a bit confused about their advise counter to hers.

Hi girls

Thanks for you advice. I am just trying the cream by myself as I am so fed up of waiting around and being fobbed off by the fertility 'specialists'. Quite honestly I don't see how my prog level can be normal if I am getting af so early. I believe it is because my prog levels drop suddenly. There doesn't seem to be any other reason given that my follicle size and lining are both ok when I ov.

I am going to carry on using the cream just this month and see how it affects my luteal phase. I have read that any side effects would only occur if you took it long term so short term I think it will be ok. If it works I can go back to my fs armed with evidence and will ask about prescribed progesterone like you suggest Jasmak.

Brooklyn - I have read that a dip in prog like that is common and not really understood. I will let you know how I get on this month anyway.

Thanks again - this is sooo stressful and the fs makes me extremely mad!!!!

I want to use progestrone as this is the only hormone that I showed low test results in and I've had two chemical pregnancies whilst on clomid so I am wondering if my progestrone levels do not remain high enough to sustain a pregnancy. Would be interested in knowing where people are getting their progestrone as the Fertility nurses at my unit refuse to prescribe it. Thanks

Hi carebear. Sorry to hear about your chemical pregnancies.

I get my prog cream online - it's called natpro and is organic. It's about £18 - just google it and it will come up. A tube will last ages as you only have to use a little bit. There is another one called oasis serene and their website gives loads of information that is useful.

These creams seem to claim that natural progesterone is absorbed better through the skin so you do not have to take as much as if you were using suppositories or oral prog. I am going to ask my fs for more info - if I ever get to see him when he had time!!! I've read its safe and think it can't be that bad as people are prescribed it all of the time. Still have few doubts though and would rather an fs confirmed it was completely safe xxxx

Mine was prescribed...by a specialist. I think progesterone is controversial of whether it really works or not...but, it can't hurt either.

I also take 100mg progesterone suppositories (start a few days after O, until I have a confirmed negative result). My OB/GYN prescribed it for me.

My progesterone is low however, even after 5 MC's my gyne won't give me it. So I've started using Wellsprings (online) progesterone cream in the LP.

I'm awaiting to go on a trial for NKC and there is a new trial coming out next month for Progesterone, it's called the PROMISE trial, this is for woman with RCM so it may apply to some of you.

:hugs:
