From the start ive had my heart set on the name Ella but the only problem is my surname is Ely (like Healey) which i didnt think was too bad but most people dont pronounce it right and often say Ellie or Eli, once they have been corrected its fine so it would only be going to appointments like the doctors. Do you think it would be really cruel to name her Ella Ely?

Nope i dont think its cruel, i think it goes really nicely actually.

Its people mispronouncing your last name that would make it sound samey so thats not cruel at all i think Ella Ely pronounce correctly is lovely :)

xxx

im so glad someone else thinks its ok. i really cant imagine her having another name now but if she was going to be laughed at because of it i would have to.

Just don't have Isla or something like that as a middle name :D

Pronounced correctly, it's beautiful. :) Have to agree that the middle name can't start with another vowel though, it makes it a bit cartoony imo.

Agreed with above, when pronounced correctly its lovely :)

well her middle name is going to be Bethany and i think that goes nicely.

i love the name, is gawjus.
:)
im always worried about my babys surmane, itll be wafer XD

"Ella Ely" pronounced correctly sounds cute although it looks a bit strange together -- but certainly not "cruel".

However, it's probably going to be misspronounced quite a bit... and not just at the doctor's office. Did all your teachers misspronounce it when you were in school?

"Ella Ellie" & "Ella Eli" sounds kinda silly....

What about a longer version of Ella like Eleanor or Eliana or Gabriella & then have "Ella" as the nn?

Example: Eleanor Bethany Ely / Eleanor Ely -- That way teachers, doctor's offices, etc... can pronounce the full name version, yet "Ella" is her nickname...

Just a thought!

i was thinking about longer versions but i just couldnt think of any i liked. i would have liked it to be longer anyway because i like longer names that get shortened. teachers were always ok actually, they would maybe get it wrong once. when people pronounce it wrong they do tend to say Eli which isnt THAT bad i dont think, it is rare they say Ellie and i think thats the worst.
