If anything i think it makes labor faster. I had it with my son and now again for my second. It was very painful but i had a quick 6 hour labor and pushed him out in ten minutes tops.
doesnt affect labour but ideally you would want to try to avoid an epidural so you still know where you can move without pain as you dont want to over stretch and damage something so close to the finishing post, a waterbirth is reccomended as you can have the freedom of movement with the bouyancy of the water helping you move about
