Hi guys

I was looking for some help. I am 13 and a half weeks and a friend recently lent me her Doppler.

I already know from my scan that I have an anterior placenta so I know it's probably going to be harder but I have heard a heart beat a few times and can't work out if it's mine or babys!

The silly thing is I have a toddler so I listened to her heartbeat lots on midwifes Doppler.

I have been hearing heartbeat very low down in pubic bone area and it's quick but doesn't sound like a galloping horse so much so could be mine?! Would I be hearing mine that low?

Any tips or help would be great!

Put your hand on your neck and feel your pulse (or check your wrist if you know how) thatll give u some idea of what yours should be like.

Yes you will be able to hear your hb that low. Make sure your using baby oil or even lube whatever you have with the Doppler... It helps!!!

Baby's hb will be fast, yours will be slow and rhythmic... It doesnt always sound like horses, mine sounds more like a train lol....However I'd say that at 13 weeks it'll be your hb not baby's that your hearing. Xxx

I heard our babies hb from about 9 weeks if I recall. Once you hear it you definitely know. Its so fast incomparrison to ours. I could also hear the placenta swishing around like wind in the trees.

The earlier you are the lower you will find the hb. I always tended to find it best first thing in the morning or last thing at night. Patience is needed as it could take up to 15 mins. I bought gel off ebay.

I was lucky and found my little mans HB very quickly. If you put the doppler just above your pubic bone aiming it down towards your Fuufu  and move very slowly you will hear it eventually. think of it not as galloping horses but maybe a train too ? its a similar sort of noise but depending on how your LO is positioned its going to sound different. if it sounds like a normal pulse that is your hb not the babies and just to keep trying youll get it eventually! :flower: x

I am finding it low and the heartbeat appears fast but I have quite a quick pulse anyway. The thing that makes me think it's mine is that I haven't heard mine, should I definitely be able to hear mine?

If you want to hear yours start higher and then work your way down. Sometimes i can hear my heartbeat with LOs in the background but sometimes I can get just him. Just have to have a bit of a play around.

i could only hear mine sometimes when I was as far as you. like another lady said try putting your fingers to the pulse in your neck to see if they are in time. babys heartbeat should be about 150bpm so its noticeably fast.
now at 21 weeks if i put the doppler very central just below my belly button i can hear the placenta everytime without fail which is exactly the same rate as my pulse.
xx

I think I have heard the placenta whooshing- it's just the heartbeat confusing me! I think probably it was mine. Which means I haven't heard baby at all then.

really dont panic yourself. on alot of dopplers like mine it says not to use until 16 weeks because the heartbeat is difficult to find even with a midwifes one. Itll come :) x

Yes, don't worry if you can't find it. It's still early and with your placenta it may make things a bit harder. Also, at 13 weeks my baby's heart rate was like 178. Of course there is a range, but early on the heart rate is usually pretty high, it doesn't slow down til later. If your heart rate is above 100 consistently then I'd let your doc know. Time the heart rte that you hear and how many beats per minute you hear. If it is over 100 it is probably the baby. (I say 100 because a heart rate consistently over 100 beats per minute while at rest COULD be a sign of sinus tachycardia in an adult I have this and all it has meant is a little extra monitoring, so don't worry about it but def tell your doc if this is the case).
