The hubby and I are talking about LOs surname.

We already know there is no compromise on my surname being taken away from me or her (no issues there) but we are unsure on what to do with Evie.

We could either have our names double barred OR we could give her my OHs surname as a second middle name.

    Options:

Evie Deborah Darr Pickard (First middle middle last)

Evie Deborah Darr-Pickard (First middle last)

Evie Deborah Pickard-Darr (First middle last)

    Now my brain hurts.

    Whats your guys opinion?

    Thank you!

Evie deborah pickard-darr in my opinion.

Double barrel only works if the names go together. And with the pickard part first, it goes nicely :)

Darr-Pickard would be the norm...I think should have both of your last names if you are wanting to use yours as well as you OHs

I am using my surname as a second middle name as I kept my maiden name when I got married.

I'm not always sure about doubled barreled names but I think Pickard-Darr works well. I did change my name when I got married but LO and I have my maiden name as a middle name and I think it's a nice way to connect to both families.

You could also drop the hyphen and still have 2 surnames.

I was forced to keep my maiden name when I got married because we live in Italy and it is not possible to change the name you were born with but in the UK I am known by both surnames, I just added DH's to my own, no hyphen.

I really dislike hyphenated last names for some reason. I'd go with two middle names.

Thanks for not 'personally' liking the names myself and my partner were born with. I will ask him to change them to suit you better.

Go with what is right for you hun, don't worry about anyone else! I have a double barrelled surname - I got it from my husband when we married so of course my girl has the same. People make comments sometimes about 'why would we do that for it' but it is none of their business whatsoever.

I 'personally' love the names you have picked and the ones you and your partner were born with! They work well together and role of the tongue. My LO will be having a double barrelled surname too (I kept my maiden name when we married), only it will be a whopping 18 letters long...but if anyone else doesn't like it they can just bugger off as it is nothing to do with them.

we used my husbands surname first and then my surname last with a (-) in between. i kept my own surname when we got married and wanted our children to have it also.

sorry but i think its a bit unfair to ask for peoples opinions if you are going to react like that when someone tells you they don't like it.

Well you asked so here's my opinion. I have a double barrel surname as I refused to give up mine, it's pretty unique and means a lot. However, there's not a chance I'd inflict it on my child. I'm lucky that MrC mostly uses my surname so our child will do the same. Stick to two middle names, don't hyphenate.

Inflict  - No melodrama there. I had one 'inflicted' on me. I just use whichever name I fancy at the time. To date, no long term damage done.
