hello ladies,

i suppose this applies to everything really...

i always doubt myself when putting rhys to sleep - when he fights it - he will cry and cry and resist, but i think to myself "im sure he is tired" can see all his signs and cues etc...

in the 10-15 mins he will cry and fuss before going to sleep i think "should i just get him up?" and about 2-3 mins later he usually falls asleep.

was he ever really tired? or just fighting? or has he just cried himself to sleep?

xxx

I do this all the time. I dont want to feel like Im just putting LO to sleep all the time but he shows tired signs after about an hour of being awake. So i take him upstairs, put him in his moses basket, he thrashes about and cries a bit while i rock him and hold the dummy in his mouth and then just when i think about giving up and just bringing him downstairs again he starts to shut his eyes. You just need to trust your instinct on these things because no one knows your LO better than you. Nathan gets very grumpy and fidgety when he's tired and yawns and sometimes rubs his eyes. Thats how i know he needs a nap.

My MIL is the WORST for this. She always wants to hold him and play with him so when i say 'right, he's tired i need to take him up for his nap' and she tries to take him off me and say 'he doesn't look tired to me, your not tired are you Nathan?' I've started just saying 'he's tired, he's having a nap, end of' and bringing him upstairs. I dont care if im being rude, my baby needs a nap and its cruel of her to try and deny him that just because she's being selfish and wants a cuddle! Not to mention she doesnt even hold him properly so he hates cuddling with her anyways (that was my thread yesterday, MIL rant, hah)

You said it!

Whenever my LO is showing signs of needing a nap, I put her down. Then if she doesn't fall straight to sleep and starts fussing instead, I always think to myself that if she isn't asleep after 10 mins I will get her up again because perhaps I was wrong about her needing a nap. And 9 times out of 10, she is always fast asleep ten minutes later.

I think babies just aren't as predictable as we'd like. Sometimes we can read their signs perfectly, sometimes one minute they are tired and the next they are not! I'm sure you are doing just fine.

Like others said, you should trust your instincts :) You know your baby :)
