Dumb qn - but what are stage 1 and stage 2 foods

Sorry but what do ppl mean when they refer to stages in baby foods ? Is it some kind of reference in the jar food industry ? How can i tell what stage my baby is at ?

Stage 1 is very pureed (sp) then each stage gets more 'textured' Start at stage 1 and then introduce more textures when you think LO is ready, most are freezable so if they don't eat it it's not a big deal just dish up a small portion and freeze the rest until another time
