I used an ice pack for a while on ovulation day on my lower back. For a good while, long enough to make it numb. Then I used a heating pad for a long time.

Would this extreme cold kill sperm from the day before? Or would it probably not make a difference?

Hmmm..I'm not positive. I wouldn't think so but I have heard not to use heat but I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it.

I don't think that using a heating or cold compact on your back would affect the sperm
