As we are approaching TTC for a year, my Dr has began testing to see what is keeping me from becoming pregnant. We have done ultrasounds, Hcg injections, endometrial biopsy, and am now scheduled for a hysterosalpinogram (HSG)(having dye ran into my tubes to check for blockage). Does anyone know what to expect from this....aka...is it painful? Is it true that if there are no blockages, you have a higher chance of conceiving during the next few cycles following the HSG?

Hi,

I had an HSG a couple of months ago and it really isn't anything to worry about. It's as uncomfortable as a smear test. I ached a little bit as the dye was running through and had a couple of minor ovulation type cramps afterwards for a couple of hours but nothing major at all!

Apparently there can be a higher chance of pregnancy after an HSG as it could flush a minor blockage out but if there's nothing there to push out I don't think your chances are any higher than normal (but I could be wrong).

It's honestly nothing to worry about!!!!!!!

The actual procedure was fine for me but I had really really bad cramps for a couple of hours afterwards.

Good luck xx

hi there,
I had dye test last dec and was told that both my tubes were blocked...obviously i was devastated...went for follow up and had a different consultant who was adamant that i should have it done again...and a laparoscopy at same time as she was not convinced by the medical report. Anyway i had it done again and guess what...both tubes are clear!!! apparently the tubes can go into spasm and appear blocked...so if you are worried by the results then ask for a second opinion.

good luck i am sure it will be fine...it just feel like period cramps to me and i had hardly any bleeding afterwards.

Hey

I had it done last year - only think that hurt was my dignity

Consultant performed it and so long as you relax, bit of deep breathing it's fine and no worse than a smear. You may feel some minor discomfort if there is a blockage as there is resistance. Consultant said that there can be an increased chance of pregnancy after the flush as it can get rid of 'debris'.

Good luck and hope all is fine xx

Thanks for all the feedback....I think my mind is more at ease now.
