I really need to dye my hair now, it's really ridiculous now lol - I've put it off for 25 weeks, but now I can see grey hairs sprouting out everywhere (I'm only 20 years old!). It will be a full head colour (I'll do it at home) so it means it will be used on my roots & scalp. I stupidly forgot to ask my midwife today if she thought it was okay, and don't see her for another 6wks yet...she wasn't very helpful anyways with other questions I had but oh well.

So is it ok to dye my hair? I've read several mixed views on it, but would really love to know. My hair is crap at taking colour by the way - it always fades to the exact same colour it was before but since my roots are like 6 or 7 inches I'm hoping my original non dyed hair takes the colour better than normal.

The dye I got was a superdrug own brand and it only goes on my head for 10 minutes, and I'd do it outside so I get maximum ventilation :)

My MW said its fine as long as the room is well ventilated babe, I did mine just before my scan and bubs was fine.

I dyed my hair last week for the 1st time since I got pregnant - Normally use Permanent Dye but opted for Semi-Perm (8 week wash out time) instead as I've heard that's much safer. Apparently so long as you're not bleaching your hair every fortnight or something then it's ok, bleach is the worst thing. Any other colour isn't as bad but go for Semi Perm if u can :)

Why don't you use henna instead its more natural so probably not as harmful as chemicals, or the 10 minute dye so its only on for a short while.

I got my hair hi lighted yesterday... I just kept well ventilated.

I use the 10 min Herbashine non-permanent type just to be careful. I too have premature grey.

I've bleached and dyed my hair as normal (it's bright pink so needs up-keep!)

The hair colour doesn't go in your blood-stream and it's on your skin for such a short time that it's not gonna do any harm - the only people that need to worry about exposure to the chemicals is hairdressers who deal with it every day.

Yeah the little bit of exposure wont do anything... my mom is a hairdresser and worked through having two kids... we turned out okay lol

Just as the other ladies have said, my doctor said as long as the area is well ventalated, there is no problem w/dying your hair, even if you do the roots. The only thing she said is that some times the dye acts differently when you are pg and the color might not be what you expected...

Henna is good but a lot of home days say you can't use them if you've used a progressive hair colour or henna so be careful if you do use it - it'll affect how your hair is dyed in the future

Mine is desperate for doing but I can't be arsed lol plus I use bleach on mine so gonna wait just a few more months til bubs arrives I may as well now!

Its fine to dye it. Ive dyed mine once and will be doing it again shortly - its horrifying how much grey I have!

I waited until after the first trimester to get my hair done. I will be getting my hair done again next week and then most likely right around the time baby is due.

Just put mousse in it or something to darken it until after the baby.

I've had mine done all the way through, there is nothing wrong with getting it done, esp if its well ventillated etc.

Hair dyes especially home ones are alot more gentle than before the only real concern is the colour taking. I'd go with one you are used to using and you should be fine...even if it may need a bit longer on the development.

Colour away matey, we have to give up everything else, having a nice head of hair wont harm xxx
