Early pregnancy units (UK) - they're ace!

Just wanted to say how fantastic the Early pregnancy unit at my hospital was yesterday when I went to see them with some light brown discharge.

They saw me quickly, caught up on my history, did a scan (saw heartbeat!!) and essentially just reassured me that everything looks ok for now.

I know not everyone has had a good experience (esp. waiting times) but I wouldn't have even known these departments existed except for a post on here so wanted to spread the word.

If you have any concerns especially in the first 13 weeks, ring your local unit and talk to them or drop in.

Very pleased that everything looks good and you were seen to quickly!

EPUs are usually excellent. The staff that work there are often kind and lovely in my experience.

Mine doesn't accept non urgent self referrals though, you have to get sent there by a doctor or midwife unless you are having proper miscarriage symptoms. However once you have got a referall you can often be seen same day or next day over here.

I have been really impressed with my local EPU as well, all the staff were lovely, and helpful. I would definatly recommend them! I am actaully going to go on the NHS choices website and review how good they were, because I think people should know!!!

Singers_love, that is a great idea! I will do the same today. We should promote and support these units or one day, they might be cut!

Great post! They were brilliant for me too. Picked up my ectopic when a&e sent me home!!
And have been brilliant this time around too.
