Early scans

I've booked a private early scan when I will be 6weeks and 3 days along. Would this be an internal or external scan? Should we be able to hear the heartbeat at this stage? Thank you x

It could possibly be an internal scan. They may try abdominal first though. I had an internal at 6 weeks myself.
Not sure about hearing it, but you may see it on screen. I did hear it at 8 weeks on a scan- just sure how much earlier they can hear it though,

I had a scan at 6 weeks 3 days and it was internal. Got a good view of bean but no heartbeat. They said it was still early so booked me in for 10 days later. Went back, another internal and a beautiful heartbeat. Hope this helps.

I was expecting internal today but they didnt do it. My lil bean measured 6+5.
You may or may not hear it, everywhere does things different to how the scan is performed. x

I had an internal at 5w6d and was able to see only one of the heartbeats (twins). When I checked at 7 weeks, she saw both heartbeats. You are right in time where you COULD see it, but not necessarily.

I think it all depends on your clinic whether they do internal or external.

I don't think you'll hear it but I had an abdominal scan at 6 weeks exactly and was able to see the heartbeat.

I've always had an internal at both my early scans at 6 weeks. I didn't hear heartbeat but I saw it! x

I would be over the moon if I could see the heartbeat, even if my scan is too early to hear it.

Hey I just found out im expecting im 5 weeks 3 days today and I had an ectopic and tube removed in June so scared stiff but got a early scan Friday when ill be 6 weeks 2 days so hopefully ill see something.

Had my first scan at 7+6, and it was internal. Saw the heartbeat but she didnt even try to "hear" it for us, she said its so little its not worth the stress.

Thank you. That makes sense. If I can see it I will be more than happy. Will be able to hear it at my 12 week to make that special too

I'm from Cheshire. Only 4 weeks atm so got nearly 3 weeks til my scan.

mine was at 6+3, they started with abdominal got a hb of 105 bpm; than went for internal for MUCH clearer images and got a more accurate hb of 112 bpm.

Thank you for sharing. Great they could find the hb with external. I'm happy for either type. Had plenty of internal scans while trying to conceive
