20 week ultrasound today...it's a BOY!! They saw something called an echogenic intracardiac focus on his heart...Dr. said it's completely harmless, and he sees it once in about every 20 fetuses. But he also said it can sometimes be indicative of Down's Syndrome. It doesn't matter to my husband and I either way, we even turned down the genetic testing that would tell us for sure. Has anyone had this be found on their baby's heart and did it happen to turn out your baby was born with Down's? Like I said, it doesn't matter either way to us but I'd like to know if it's something I really need to research or even expect. We want to be as prepared as possible...and does anyone recommend we do the genetic testing anyways? Just trying to look at all the possibilities. Lots of input would be greatly appreciated!

Didn't have this, but my baby did have an echogenic bowel, which can be nothing or can be Down's or a virus or...the list went on and on. I know it's not exactly the same thing as what they saw with your baby, but we did face the same decision about extra testing. We opted not to do the amnio because it can cause mc but I did get blood tests to see if it was likely/ not likely to be a virus or chromosome issue. I wish you and your baby the best of health!

congrats on team blue :) boys are so much fun.

We initially declined the genetic testing but at our 20w scan they found a possible VSD (heart defect) and highly suggested that we get it... since it's just blood work we decided we would and everything came back normal - it did put our mind at ease as we were the same - it wouldn't change our mind, but it's good to be as prepared as you can be.

Hope everything turns out fine :hugs:
