Hello Ladies :flower:

My LB is 5 months old and has suffered with Eczema since being about 2 months. At first we were told by a pediatrician to keep doing our normal bathtime routine with baby shampoo and Johnsons baby bath which obviously didn't improve it at all. I took him to the doctors and he prescribed him Fucidic Acid for parts of the eczema that were infected, and Oilatum Oil for his bath and Oilatum cream. Since changing his bath routiune and using the cream his skin hasn't got better at all, infact it seems to have got worse! :trouble: I've got some DiproBase Oitment today in the hope that that might help. Has anybody used it, and was it effective? Or is there anything else I could try on it?

Thankyou in advance :)

I have had eczema since a baby but diprobase only worked as a temporary measure. Saying that mine is eptopic eczema so it might work fine. It's definatley worth a go.

My DH and My DS both have eczema. The only thing that has worked for us is taking away all the baby shampoos and lotions and only using regular white Dove bar soap in his bath. We even used it in his hair. We also use Eucerin lotion twice a day...especially after a bath. My DS' pediatrician recommended this and it has worked wonders. A friend of mine said that she also has had success with baby oil gel. Good luck. I know it's hard on moms when their lo's are suffering.

Thank you both!! It's horrible seeing him crying and itching it :( Just want to take it all away!!

I will tell you what worked for my LO (he had it all over his body I mean it was horrible!) We use Aveeno Baby Eczema wash and lotion, we also constantly run a cool mist humidifier in the room with LO, don't keep it too warm in house, and keep LO in thinner clothes that breathe! Pat dry after bath... LO's skin looks much better now!

make sure you use everything without fragrances!!! also make sure to get a good laundry detergent that is meant for babies, and make sure you are not using any cling free sheets@

I would lose the Johnson's wash, that stuff is full of irritants.

Yep avoid any products with salphates (SLS) and parabans and fragrances.

I used Diprobase for my son's eczema and it worked wonders. I use it myself now on my dry skin and it's fab, I love it! However eczema is a highly individual thing and some creams work on some people and others work on other people so it can take time to find on that works. I second what others have said about allergens. Stop using all fragranced products, just wash LO in water or eczema products, look at getting a low allergy washing liquid like Surcare and do an extra rinse on LO's washing, and think about what baby wipes you use. I found just cotton wool and water was best. The ingredients of baby wipes, even the sensitive ones, are a bit scary. Also, don't be afraid to ask or use steroids if you need them; they work really well and won't damage the skin if used properly.

I use simple baby wash, works really well. have you thought about him possible having an intolerance to milk? my son was put on nutramigen formula (prescribed) instead of normal formula and it seems to have got rid of his worst patches of excema xx

Oh gawd.. I hate eczema!! I grew up with it and every time I visit my family in CO (like now) it always comes back. I have a few patches right now that are driving me nuts. I agree with the posters that have said get rid of anything that has fragrance and keep the skin hydrated with lotion. Hope everything works out!!

My baby has eczema caused by intolerances. Now I have cut certain foods out it has pretty much gone. We had oilatum prescribed and dermal but found that it was best to use natural bath salt in the bath (one heaped table spoon). This was recommended by the nutritionist I took her too. I have stopped using anything else in the bath. Then I have found the body shop baby burrita cream really good. I did find the prescribed creams seemed to make it flair up worse. Both said that people can be allergic to some is the ingredients.

Omg I absolutely refuse to use Johnson's ! It ruined my beautiful babies skin! Ever since using it, she's developed eczema all over her face, she obviously had sensitive skin and Johnson's has affected it ! .. Funny, I've actually been advised its strong enough to clean the bath out with instead lol ..

Doctor gave me some hydrocortisone to use for 7 days which has actually started clearing it up! And he recommended I buy some emulsifying ointment ( which is quite oily ) but helps to restore the moisture in her face so it's not so dry! ..

So far, this has been working! Hope you find a way to clear it up soon :) xx

my lo has eczema and at one point was so bad on her finger tips her skin would crack open. the thing that helped my los skin are not bathing as often. i put her in the bath just for the playtime/routine but dont wash her but 2 times a week and really only the important areas. johnsons is a big no no for us. aveeno fragrance free or cetaphil to wash. aveeno cream to moisturize. if it flares up, i use a steroid rx from her pedi or hydrocorisone cream. i have also used coconut oil on her skin and it helped for the smaller, not so bad areas. i found out if i control it quick, it will be gone by the next day.

Callum has really bad eczema and this is what we do:

- Lukewarm bath every night with a tbsp of olive oil. He gets Cetaphil eczema soap once a week. The olive oil keeps his skin from drying out before we moisturize it.
- We moisturize him 4 times a day with Cetaphil. We also have a prescription cream called EpiCeram that we use on his face when it's bad. It's expensive so we use it sparingly.
- His eczema is part hereditary (I have asthma, and they're in the same family) and part allergy to milk protein and soy. I BF so I've cut both out of my diet.
- We also have a steroid cream called Topicort that we use when he has a really bad flare up. We can only use it for a 5 day stretch once a month.
- Eczema gets worse with the dry air, which we have right now so he has a fishtank, humidifier and bucket of water in his room to keep the air moist enough. We have electric heat in our apartment and so it gets SUPER dry.
- His skin will crack sometimes due to the excessive dryness and we use a combination of Aquaphor and Glaxal Base.
- Lastly, we switched laundry detergents to a dye-free and scent-free detergent.

Good luck! It sucks, but the pediatrician is confident he'll grow out of it as he grows out of his allergies. OH had the milk protein allergy and SIL had the soy allergy...but his ped said by the time he's two he should have outgrown the allergies. OH and SIL have outgrown theirs so here's hoping!

I would look into your LO having allergies or intolerances, and definitely cut out the Johnson's soap. Also, the key to keeping eczema at bay is to keep the skin moist! So definitely use olive oil in the bath, and make sure the water isn't hot because that dries out the skin quicker. And moisturize often.

I agree with the others on losing the Johnson's . . it's absolutely terrible! I also don't recommend Aveeno, but that's just my opinion. We found out a couple of weeks ago our LO's eczema is actually caused by a dairy allergy which the allergist told is is pretty common so I would cut dairy out of your diet (and LO's) and see if it improves. In the meantime, I would recommend trying coconut oil to moisturize LO's skin. We use that on our LO along with Burt's Bees Fragrance Free Lotion and they are both such a lifesaver! We also cut out any soaps/bubble baths for LO during bath time so now he just bathes in plain water and we find that helps :)

I have read that using pure glycerin diluted with water really helps. I am using on myself right now for a patch of psoriasis that I have. I think you use 50/50. Maybe ask the dr if you an try that as it is a pretty safe product!

Thankyou everyone!! We stopped using Johnsons on him as soon as we found out he had eczema and use cotton wool when changing him instead of wipes. So far the DiproBase has massively improved it! (for now anyway)

The Oilatum cream the doctor gave us has been useless so might try the aveeno cream! It seems quite popular amongst you!

I have wondered whether he's intolerant to milk and that's what's causing it! My brother was the same when he was a baby and as soon as he went onto soya milk his eczema completely cleared up!

We found oilatum useless and DS is prescribed another bath emollient, can't think what it's called. We use aqueous cream instead of soap and he is prescribed double base. A few months ago we started using green people's organic mum and baby rescue balm which is really nice but he still has flare ups which we use the steroid cream for.

Oh man, Matty has been covered in eczema since birth. I had tried everything. Finally my doc gave me a prescription for 2.5% cortizone cream. That works on the big flare ups.
What has really helped him is Lubriderm basic lotion. No fragrances, just the basic blue and white bottle. Aveeno really broke him out bad. I rub it on him every time I change a diaper. Also the Neosprorin Moisture essentials body wash (it's by the cortizone10 and such). It is no fragrance and non-soap (which sounds weird) but it lathers really creamily and you can feel on your hands how gentle it is. Since I started this routine about 2 weeks ago he is so many leaps and bounds better :)
Good luck
