Empty Sac...Absolutely heartbroken

Hi,

I am 6 weeks pregnant and a few days ago had a light gush (felt like a period), checked and there was bright red blood, it was watery not thick or clots. It happened again about 10 mins later. I went to EPU this afternoon and they could only see an empty sac. They said they would expect to see something more by now. I had blood taken and have to go back on wed to have some more taken so they can compare my hcg levels.

Just wondered if anyone else had this happen and if so what was the outcome? I'm clinging onto any thread of hope but it's not looking good.

I didn't want to read and run. I have heard situations where there hasn't been much seen on a scan at 6 weeks and a couple of weeks later everything is exactly as it should be... I really hope that this is the case for you xx I wish you luck xxx

It's not a pointless post hunny. I'm sorry to hear this news *hugs* I hope your lil bean is still sticky. I have no experience with this or heard of much so hopefully someone can come with a bit of support for you? Take care xx

Don't give up hope. Your dates could be out slightly and even if they are by a few days it is possible they wouldn't see anything yet. Make sure they scan you again before anything is decided.

I have known woman on here who had so fetal pole at 6 weeks then the following week they saw the pole and a hb.

I can't say things are going to work out sadly, but at this point don't give up hope

Oh no Jaffacake I am so sorry to hear that. I literally updated my own post about this 5 mins ago (had the one gush exactly the same as you 4 days ago). It may give you some hope (i hope it does at least)

What sort of scan did they do? If they did an external one then its possible that it wouldnt pick it up yet. I had an internal one because she said an external they probably wouldnt see much. Plus they moved back my dates from 5wk 6 days to 5 wk 3 days.

My bllod came from an area of bleeding outside the sac, you could still see some and she said it may be absorbed or it may gush again. She said it looks like it happened from when implantation occured.

I really really really hope things work out for you. I am so so so sorry you didnt see anything today.

Hi dear, do hang in there. Like someone wrote, your dates could be much earlier. I had a 6+2 scan and saw only sac and yolk, no heartbeat. My dates are very exact because I went through ICSI with a specific conception date. Maybe you just need to wait a week or so longer.

I had the same thing happen at all of my scans when I was 5w1d/ 5w5d and at 6w1d. I cried for almost 4 days straight when they said they didnt see anything at 5w1d. Finally they found the ges. sac at my 5w5d scan but their was no yolk sac or fetal pole in it. They started calling my pregnancy a "threatened miscarriage" and told me that I probably have a blighted ovum and would be passing everything over the next week. I was so sad and so worried. They started checking my hCG levels every 72 hours and they were going up just fine so I still had hope and sure enough I went in for a scan at 6w4 days and we seen everything even the tiny little heartbeat! I think you should have your hCG levels monitored and just try to stay calm ( I know its easier said then done) and wait until you are about 7 weeks before you do another scan. At 7 weeks you should be able to see the hb. Good luck. Let us know how everything goes!

Oh its devastating isnt it, I've just been through exactly the same thing.
Last friday I had really strong AF pains and bright red blood when I wiped, I thought I was about 5 and a half weeks. I went for a private scan on the sat which showed a sac but really he didnt look too much at it.
Well I was so worried over the weekend I went to EPU on the monday and they did and internal scan and saw an empty sac and said I must've had my dates wrong. they took blood for HCG levels and I went back again on wednesday and had an external scan which showed 'something' in the sac and my HCG had doubled. They said they thought I was about 5 and a half weeks so a week behind what I thought I should've been.
I still havent had a definitive answer, I'm going for another scan tomorrow and I'm keeping everything crossed that they see a wee heartbeat this time.

I'm sorry I cant reassure you more but there are lots of women on here who have gone on to find out their dates were behind or whatever and things turn out ok in the end.

I hope this is the case for you (and me) and I'll keep everything crossed for you.

Oh Thanks so much for all your replies. You're all so lovely and yes I wont give up hope and wait until my blood results have come back on Thursday.

Tonnilou - It was an internal scan and they also confirmed I have a cyst on my ovary but apparently that's quite normal. I'll just try and relax until Thursday. Fantastic news for you today, you must be so relieved. Let's just hope my little beanie is very shy and hiding away somewhere.

Jsut wanted to say a friend of mine who is 18weeks preg has been bleeding heavily on and off since 6 weeks pregnant, her bleed is due to the fact she has ovarian cysts...so maybe the case for you too???

I recently went through something similar (less the bleeding). I went in for my first ultrasound at what my doc told me was 7-8 weeks. They found the sac but no embryo. My doctor scheduled another ultrasound. At the 2nd ultrasound after a week, the embryo was found and I was told I was more like 6 weeks into the pregnancy.

Thanks for your replies. Lynz- They did tell me they could see a cyst on my right ovary but nothing to worry about. I'm trying not to get my hopes up but am clinging on to a little miracle hiding in there.

I wish Thursday would come quickly so I can get the results of my bloods.
