Evening Primrose Oil???

Hi Im 36+2 and wondering which way to take EPO. I have read some threads that say 1xoral and one inserted into cervix. I would like some more information before I give them a try. Thanks xx

Also isnt 36wks a bit early to be trying to induce labour?

EPO Doesn't actually induce labour it just softens and prepares the cervix

Hey hun Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) is a herbal oil usually comes in the form of gel capsules in 1000mg and 500mg ... It is said that taking these tablets towards the end of pregnancy can help to ripen the cervix ready for labour. There is a misconception that it induces labour but this is not the case.

It is entirley your choice if you take it, there is no scientific evidence that it helps but alot of people say it does and SOME midwives recommend it.

The capsules can be taken orally from around 37 weeks (full term) or internally inserted into the vagina.

I take 1000mg vaginally at bedtime and 1000mg orally at breakfast (no leaking out ) My cousin's missus is a midwife and suggested it.

I take 2 caps morning and evening and 1 inserted - I tried 2 inserted but the 2nd one got kinda 'stuck' at the entrance and was blooming uncomfy Sorry TMI

I didn't start until after 37 weeks, before that I don't think many m/w's would advise it - best leave your cervix alone until bub us at term.

I started taking 500mg morning and evening orally. At 38 weeks I will probably start inserting 1000mg vaginally as well.

It definitely doesn't induce labour the oil is just full of prostglandins...just like semen. So, in theory, sex should have the same effect as vaginally inserted EPO.

I take 500mg orally in the morning and evening and have done for a few days now. Dont know if i will bother with internally.
