Oh my goodness, just had a terrifying experience - trying to go to the loo after 4 days on iron tablets.....i can safely say i am not taking anymore of those evil pills. Theyre awful!!! What are ya meant to do, if you take 'em your buggered and if you dont youre buggered :/ x

Ive heard they can be troublesome!

I had to take them for my first pregnancy and again this time but I havent got them as yet. I have increased my intake of veggies and fruit and fruit juice in hope that helps as I had some scary times on the loo with them and they made me feel awful

This is the reason I stopped taking mine!! That was 4 weeks ago and I'm still having trouble going the toilet. :( xx

Take spatone - I can honestly say that it's not affected my (ahem) comfort at all. I take it in smoothie or apple juice (although I believe it's best taken in orange juice but that's too acidic for me). It's not available on NHS prescription I think but ask your doctor about it and how much you should be taking.

Spatone - it's amazing. It's the iron in pregnacare and general pregnancy that makes me constipated. When i just take spatone it's loooooads better. Expensive, but better than tabs as more of iron is absorbed ie 70% as opposed to 30-40% from tabs (or something like that). Took iron tabs with my first child and NEVER AGAIN.

UGH, I started iron last week and I went from two easy bowel movements a day to one if I am lucky. I am trying to persevere, because I must say that I have started feeling a little more energetic.

I'm drinking more water, eating more fibre and veg.

I'm on ferrous fumerate - check with your GP which one yuo are on as I had that prob with ones I was on as a teenager, but these make it lovely and easy ;)

I'm lucky they've had the opposite effect on me they've made me more regular so no nasty constipation cramps here :D

Ask your gp for some movicol or similar stool softener makes a huge difference-I have 28 weeks of dealing with bloody constipation and this stuff gives some relief!!!

I have a whole box of spa tone left - I never got on with that very well. The only thing I've been using throughout the whole of my pregnancy is... Feroglobin and you can get it from boots. I take 2x teaspoons in the morning after eating with a glass of orange juice & 2x teaspoons in the evening after eating with a glass of orange juice. I use the OJ to mask the taste & also because vit c helps to absorb iron. It's really good and it doesn't make you constipated.xx
