This is a weird question, but where do you stand on exercise in the first trimester? My doctor said it was great and I exercised quite a bit with my m/c. Many of my "preventing miscarriage" books mentioned that some doctors say not to exercise much in the 1st tri. I later found out it was due to Trisomy21, so it wouldn't have made a difference either way. But now I am newly pregnant and really scared.... I gained weight with both of my pregnancies that stuck around. I want this to be a healthier pregnancy for baby and me (particularly baby). Is it good to keep my body healthy or should I take it easy and rest until we are "in the clear"?

Any advice?

Thanks!:flower:

I am walking and doing pregnancy yoga everyday in the first trimester (until around 10 weeks or so) and then I will continue my exercise that I always have done: swimming, spin class, hiking, and other exercises like that. I personally am taking it easy in the first tri and watching what I eat. Trying to eat as healthy as possible. They say that you shouldn't overheat yourself in the first tri but a brisk walk or stretching is great for you. Maybe even a leisurely swim would be good too! I think that it is a personal choice...I know people who have ran from the first tri until 39 weeks. GL hun!

I am starting yoga. I'm too nervous to try any high-impact exercises!

You should discuss this with your doctor. My doctor has told me this time around to not do anything too intense due to our loss last time. She said walking a mile or two, bike riding, and swimming (as long as the cervix is closed) are okay but not to do too much.

Thanks! i'll definitely talk with my doctor and check out prenatal yoga classes.

Hi- It totally depends on how you feel and what your doctor recommends. Mine has forbid me to do anything more that a 30 minutes of leisurely walking a day. No yoga, no swimming, no gym:( But I've had 3 losses and he's being extra cautious.

When I was pregnant last time I contacted a pre-natal yoga group and they refused to accept anyone in the first trimester because of the risks involved.

I was always told to continue your activity level that you had before you fell pregnant, so if you were really active then just carry on with low impact exercise. If you weren't or only started an exercise routine a few weeks before your pregnancy then I would keep it to light walks only :flower:

For me personally diet is more important then exercise.
