helloooo!!

so, my son (still getting used to saying that) is 11 days old. when he was born he had really bad jaundice so i had to breastfeed first & then give formula in a bottle which i didn't really mind, because i had always intended to breastfeed first and then express and give him bottle since i will be going back to work soon! anyways, i've been expressing 2 x a day and everytime i get about 3-4 oz collectively from both breasts. and i use that milk after i feed from the breast.

the problems i'm having is i run out of milk to give him in a bottle because i don't pump enough to give him after each feed. so, what should i do? i've been supplmenting with formula for now so i can build up the milk supply. should i be expressing more?

i don't know if i should be pumping after i breastfeed each time? i can imagine i wouldn't get much milk though since now when i pump once in the morning and once at night i get so little?

sorry, so amateur! thanks for the advice in advance :hugs:

if you feed one breast at a time then pump the other everytime you feed to increase supply if you feed both then you have to fit in another pumping session between feeds or in the night,
if your little one sleeps for longer at one point then pump during that time, I used to pump a little before each feed so EJ got more of the hindmilk ( which should clear the jaundice quicker too )and use what i expressed for top ups and when i found he wasnt needing top-ups i was freezing it, once i had a store i swapped him onto a bottle for a whole feed and would express that feed and right now we give 3 Bm Bottles a day and 3 BF off the boob and i express in the evening as if hes having a feed at 10-11pm when really hes sleeping at that time then i express in the morning to make the most of the milk im producing overnight and i feed him directly in the daytime he gets his bottles at 6.30-7am /6pm/8pm and feeds from me at 9/12/3pm , I tend to express while his bottle is warming in the morning with him near me

oh and FF does nothing to help clear Jaundice any faster than breastmilk and sunlight, my DS1 ended up in the SCBU for 5 days after birth with severe neonatal jaundice and he didnt have a drop of FF in that time I just had to feed him every 2-3 hours day and night for a week he wasnt supposed to go longer than 3 hours between feeds then when his jaundice cleared we let him sleep rather than waking him at night and kept waking him for feeds in the day and he was nice to us and slept 5-6 hrs overnight each night.

I would try to loose the topups or make them breastmilk only
